It’s Not About Gay Wedding Cakes. It’s About A National Religion

It’s Not About Gay Wedding Cakes. It’s About A National Religion

Take a good long look at this story.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.– Brittany Cartrett recently learned some bad news from her doctor about her pregnancy. She miscarried around five or six weeks along.

“So we made the decision to not do a D&C and to get a medicine. So he said I’m going to give you this medicine, you’ll take it, and it will help you to pass naturally so that you don’t have to go the more invasive route”, said Brittany Cartrett.

The doctor’s office called the Milledgeville Walmart to fill the prescription but they were told no and they were not given a reason.

“So we found another place to fill it but I still had to go up there to get another prescription so when I went up there she asked if I had any questions about this prescription I said no I don’t but I do have a question about the other one. And she looks at my name and she says oh, well…I couldn’t think of a valid reason why you would need this prescription“, Cartrett said.

The drug in question is Misoprostol, which can also used to induce abortions. [emphasis mine]

Everyone okay with a pharmacist overruling an actual doctor’s orders and diagnosis? Everyone okay with a pharmacist deciding, without examining you (not that they would even be capable of that) or knowing your medical condition, if you have a “valid reason” for the prescription decided upon by an actual doctor?

Republicans knew what they were doing making this about wedding cakes and photographers – they knew most people would shrug at cakes, flowers and wedding photos while missing the end game. These pharmacist “conscience clauses” are simply another way to achieve the same end. Religious Discrimination.

Health Insurance Cannot Be A La Carte

Health Insurance Cannot Be A La Carte

Health insurance only works if it covers your health care needs and mine.  It only works if the pool is big enough.  It really isn’t a case of priorities, because, if it were, then that numbers game would result in orphan diseases (very rare diseases that only affect a few) not being covered.

And, I sincerely doubt that those advocating for not covering birth control and maternity coverage would be fighting against coverage for Adrenoleukodystrophy and Landau Kleffner syndrome – let alone Viagra.  Know why?  Because the debate now raging isn’t about the ACA.  It’s, once again, about women and sex.  It’s just another branch of the war against women, and the men who love them.

I Fear For Our Daughters

I Fear For Our Daughters

hen incidents like this happen a chill runs up my spine.

A Michigan woman who suffered a dangerous, painful and prolonged miscarriage when she was 18 weeks pregnant is at the center of a lawsuit that claims she was denied appropriate treatment by a Catholic hospital guided by religious, not medical, concerns.

Yeah, I know.  The new Pope is saying awesome stuff… perhaps he can back those words up with deeds?

What happened to this woman is 100% unacceptable.  They knew the pregnancy wasn’t viable.  They knew the safest treatment option.  They knew they were endangering her health.  And I’m sure they knew she had two children at home, because, as a mother, I can’t imagine not worrying (aloud) about my children when I’m in the emergency room.  But, I’m beginning to think that these Catholic bishops, and other “pro-lifers”, only consider pregnant women mothers because they seem a-okay with creating motherless children.

It’s as if losing a child is only okay if a woman suffers maximum pain and risks her health and life.  I can’t wrap my head around that, but these incidents keep happening so that’s the drill.

The Republican war on women – and it is a war – has moved on to the next, but certainly not last, step in Virginia.

Queen Takes Republican Bishop – Checkmate

While there were many lessens learned through the Komen fiasco the main one was: Stop messing with Women’s Health or face the consequences.

Republicans would be wise to study what happened to Komen, because their plan of going after contraception could very well destroy them in the same way it destroyed Komen. By moving contraception into the forefront of the abortion wars the GOP has not only revealed its true strategy, it has exposed its King. And everyone knows that the Queen is the most powerful piece on the board. Lose your Queen, lose the… election?

Do Men Understand What Women’s Health Care Involves?

Filed in Delaware by on February 4, 2012 41 Comments

Take a look at this comment by Occam from my post Komen’s Betrayal: Just throwing this one out there – planned parenthood does not provide mammograms and Komen’s donations have gone up 100% in the last two days. By rerouting that money to organizations who actually do provide mammograms and by raising a boat-load of […]
