2012 Was The Year Of The Woman

Filed in Delaware, National by on November 9, 2012 31 Comments

Women made up 53% of the electorate this year and Republicans failed spectacularly, again, at basic math.  My guess is that they’ll keep on failing, choosing to focus on Hispanics while ignoring that Hispanic women are part of that whopping 53%.  So are African American women and Asian women – which means that women are the biggest voter demographic Republicans need to win an election.

Republicans are frighteningly out of touch with women who handed the election to President Obama.  They refused to accept, and even mocked – I’m looking at you, Joe Scarborough – that women’s reproductive rights were a serious economic concern.  They dismissed rape in the way one dismisses a hangnail.  And they lost.  Big time.

Republican Senate Candidate: Pregnancy From Rape Is God’s Will

Filed in National by on October 23, 2012 18 Comments

FYI:  Todd “legitimate rape” Akin is not an outlier.  Rep. Roger “some girls rape easy” Rivard is not an outlier.  Sharron “make lemonade out of rape” Angle is not an outlier.  Paul “I agree with Akin” Ryan is not an outlier.

As time goes on, I’m rapidly reaching the conclusion that Republicans view the act of rape as god’s will.  It’s almost as if, and I hesitate to type this, but… it’s almost as if they are casting god as the rapist.  It’s like these guys view god as a Zeus-like figure.  It’s like they are saying that despite the woman’s wishes god has decided she should be pregnant so he sent a rapist to fulfill his will.

The Men Of Morning Joe Mansplain Women Issues To Mika

Filed in National by on October 18, 2012 16 Comments

How Mika didn’t pull a Tagg Romney is beyond me.  This morning Mika brought up the fact that Mitt Romney lied about the binders.  Here’s the lie:

ROMNEY: And I — and I went to my staff, and I said, “How come all the people for these jobs are — are all men.” They said, “Well, these are the people that have the qualifications.” And I said, “Well, gosh, can’t we — can’t we find some — some women that are also qualified?”

And — and so we — we took a concerted effort to go out and find women who had backgrounds that could be qualified to become members of our cabinet.

I went to a number of women’s groups and said, “Can you help us find folks,” and they brought us whole binders full of women.

Mika pointed out that this was a lie.

Whoa!  That was simply too much for the men of Morning Joe.  How dare she bring up something that the men declared unimportant; how dare she point out that Mitt lied again.  Joe Scarborough declared the women in binders topic ridiculous and desperate – which tells me that he’s afraid of it.  Mark Halperin stated that “that’s not what this election should be about” and how they “shouldn’t be parsing individual statements said live during a debate” and asked, wistfully, if we could just talk policy for the next three weeks.  I intend to hold him to that.

Mitt, Women, Binders And AK47s

Filed in National by on October 17, 2012 33 Comments

After watching last night’s debate I’m starting to think that the only woman Mitt Romney knows is Ann Romney – and even that’s debatable.

Let’s start with the Binders Full of Women exchange.  Let’s look at what Romney said…..

I’m Telling You, We’re This Close To Burqas

I’m Telling You, We’re <i>This</i> Close To Burqas

A woman gets sexually assaulted by a police officer and the female judge gives her a lecture. If women don’t want to be sexually assaulted then they need to stay home and stop tempting men.  And if they do leave their homes and an incident like this happens they need to stop whining.

Another Teachable Sexism Moment

Filed in National by on May 24, 2012 34 Comments

This has to stop. More than that, it has to be forcibly denounced by everyone. If you don’t get why this is so very, very wrong, please turn in your Progressive card. This sort of behavior is abhorrent on every level, and my heart breaks for Ms. Cupp. This image exists. It doesn’t matter that it’s PhotoShopped. It exists, and will be sent across the internet. Can you imagine how Ms. Cupp feels (how you would feel) knowing that her friends and family will see such a thing, an image that will never go away? I’m not a lawyer, but I hope she’s able to sue Larry Flynt for every penny he’s worth.

Men Don’t Like Being Called “Creepy”

Though the word may be occasionally used unfairly (for example, to describe a physically unattractive guy’s genuinely respectful attempt at striking up a conversation), “creepy” serves a vital function.

Laws Affect People, Not Abstract Concepts

Filed in Delaware, National by on April 4, 2012 15 Comments

Hi DL. I’m Mrs. XStryker. Some of you know me already. I’m not a very vocal member of this community and in that light I’d like to thank the rest of the contributors for allowing me to post this guest blog. Something has to be done on behalf of women who think this will never happen to them. I know I was certainly one of them.

Republicans Losing Women Voters

Filed in National by on April 2, 2012 5 Comments

President Obama has emerged with an impressive lead in swing states around the country — thanks to women voters abandoning the GOP in droves, according to a new USA Today/Gallup poll showing President Obama leading among women voters in the top dozen battleground states by a whopping 18 points — greater than the 12-point gender gap he won with in 2008.

Stand Your Ground Law, Meet The Bar Scene

I am sure almost every woman has a story to tell, here is one of mine…

I was 25 and having drinks with friends at Harpoon Hannah’s (yeah, I know.). A man approached our table and asked me to dance. I thanked him for the offer, but declined. I even offered an excuse, “I’m hanging out with friends tonight. I haven’t seen them in a while, but thank you.” Frankly, my “no, thank you” should have been enough, but I get that approaching a stranger and asking them to dance can be difficult, so I always tried to be kind. Can anyone guess what happened next?

What If Buying A Gun Required The Same Restrictions As Getting An Abortion?

Filed in National by on March 30, 2012 10 Comments

Why don’t gun buyers have to follow the same rules women are forced to follow? Wait 48 hours after applying. View on ultrasound of a body with a bullet in it. Listen to the heartbeat of someone as they die of a gunshot wound. Get a lecture from a surgeon on what it is like to operate on a gunshot wound. After all that, if a person still wants a gun, he or she can buy one. Why should buying a gun be any easier than having an abortion?”

NRO: Women Using Birth Control and Family Planning are Part of a “Suicide Cult”

Filed in National by on March 26, 2012 7 Comments

I normally don’t visit the Crazy Corner (Yes, that is a link to crazy town, so consider yourself warned), but this article exposes the Conservative mindset vividly. Michael Walsh is counting the numbers in a them vs us game and is panicked that his side is losing. That’s really all this article is about – women deciding when to have children is a dangerous thing we need to stop, feminists have secretly formed a suicide pact to wipe out civilization, and the browning of the world population.
