Accidental Listening: Vigilante Edition
I was accidentally listening to Rick Jensen a few minutes ago. He had the Mother of a boy from Kirk Middle School on the phone talking about the problem that her 7th grader had with being set-up by some bullies in the school. It is a heartbreaking story and deserves its own “helpkyle” website. Sadly, Rick’s weak mind is unable to think rationally.
Rick suggested something like this:
It amazes me that in this day and age that these kids that victimized your son haven’t had their names put out on the Internet. I’m not suggesting that you do it [Kyle’s Mom], but someone could put these kids names on the Internet, where it will stay forever. And it will come up every time they try to get a job or go to a school.
I wish I was making this up. Rick Jensen is suggesting that someone apply Internet-style vigilante justice to a bunch of 7th graders.
I have no sympathy for bullies. I was personally bullied at Kirk Middle school when it was Ogeltown Middle in the early 80’s. But to have a media personality calling for an Internet smear campaign for kids in 7th grade is despicable.
Question of the Early Morning
I don’t think that it is right to judge all Republicans based on the violent actions of scores of talk-radio drunk, wacko, Republican gun enthusiast, but where is the tipping point?
When does it become okay to judge Republicans based on the actions of the conservative movement’s most passionate and engaged members?
The Lost Verses of Dante’s Inferno
And as my companion and I moved along to the next area, we saw a large metallic conveyance riding atop a parallel set of metal rails. My companion explained to me that this was called a train. Inside of this train were the tortured souls of some of the most heinous creatures ever to walk the Earth. They were all Americans that had committed the sin of voting for George Bush.
As the train moved through mountains in a land called Western Canada, the nature of their punishment became clear. They were sharing the car with a horrific beast that spewed the fire of imbecility and caused the travelers to be struck dumb by the shear force of teh stupid. The creature was a most foul beast capable of spreading his affliction for a hundred miles in all directions through a power called radio. My companion told me that this creature was called Jensen.
No matter how the humans inside the train screamed, the next stop never came and teh stupid washed over them like lava, burning their skin until they could stand it no longer.
Why Does Rick Jensen Hate Democracy ?
Somehting has been bothering me about Rick Jensen’s unhinged wingnuttery and Dave Neiwert at Orcinus nails it.
Sometimes you have to wonder what Republicans have against democracy.
Because that’s what this whole “voter fraud” foofara is about. John McCain and Sarah Palin and Lou Dobbs and the rest of the right-wing torch brigade that have been after ACORN and the Ohio Secretary of State aren’t concerned about protecting people’s right to vote — and in fact, their efforts largely go toward directly stripping citizens of their legitimate voting rights.
Or more precisely, this is all about building a post-election narrative aimed at delegitimizing a Barack Obama presidency by claiming he won fraudulently. It’s not just a handy excuse for the ass-kicking they deserve — it’s a whole right-wing conspiracy-theory cottage industry in the making that will nurture their paranoia and rage for years down the road.
Jensen and his ilk really hate America. It is sick really.
