An Interesting Poll

Steve Benen breaks it down, but here is what stands out to me:
Elsewhere in the poll, Americans said they are concerned about the deficit, but when asked about nine different ideas for deficit reduction, the public opposed all nine. Try not to be surprised.  [emphasis mine]
Seriously, we’re all talk.
About that GOP mandate…
Republicans may have made [...]

The Real War On Christmas

Via Think Progress:
Today, “thousands of Americans are set to begin losing unemployment benefits” after conservatives in Congress successfully prevented an extension from being passed. 8,400 Americans will lose their benefits by the end of this week, and the Labor Department estimates that “by the end of the third week of December, aid to 1.36 million [...]

The GOP Has Boxed Itself In With Spending Hypocrisy

GOP senators are already fighting about subsidies because some far right senators think they’re supposed to actually live up to their own rhetoric.

How Is This EVER Okay?

Unbelievable.
In a statement about the meeting acquired by Politico and Ron Kampeas at the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Cantor’s office said that:
Eric stressed that the new Republican majority will serve as a check on the Administration and what has been, up until this point, one party rule in Washington. He made clear that the Republican majority [...]

The Best Description Of The Tea Party – Ever

As usual, Matt Taibbi nails it.  I’ve highlighted certain points below, but you should really read the whole article!
A hall full of elderly white people in Medicare-paid scooters, railing against government spending and imagining themselves revolutionaries as they cheer on the vice-presidential puppet hand-picked by the GOP establishment. If there exists a better snapshot of [...]

Pete Du Pont Blesses Teabagz Take Over of DE GOP

The News Journal missed the only real piece of news coming out of the recent Brandywine GOP get together. Pete DuPont has formally turned over the DE GOP to the teabaggers.
Celia Cohen caught it though.
Du Pont took care of the rest. “It seems to me like this Tea [...]

Castle’s Failure

Mike Castle made many mistakes in his years of service. His biggest mistake was not standing up to his own party and allowing it to demonize good ideas. One example: GOP voters in the primary cited “cap & trade” as one of their top issues.

Last Night I Was Shocked, Today It Makes Sense

Last night I couldn’t believe Christine O’Donnell beat Mike Castle.  I walked around stunned.  How could this happen?  And then I realized what happened.  Why wouldn’t she win?  For far too many years the entire Republican Party has fed their supporters a steady diet of issue-less tripe.  They’ve run on liberty, freedom, real America, family [...]

C’mon

“Pastor” Jones is only a symptom of the real problem.
Speaking just now on MSNBC James Zogby made a very good point — and pressed Andrea Mitchell on it. His point was that sure, this Pastor Jones fool is one guy, who’s managed to get worldwide attention for his stunt.  But you cannot separate [...]

The Republican Dream

They really need to own this:
Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Texas) on Sunday said lawmakers who have not signed onto Rep. Paul Ryan’s plan to balance the budget lacked “courage” and could be targeted by the conservative tea party movement as a result.
Armey’s comments on NBC’s “Meet the Press” came just moments after Minority [...]

Time To Rethink Party Switches?

Two prominent party switchers have gone down to defeat in this election cycle. Republican turned Democrat Arlen Specter was upset by Joe Sestak in the PA-Sen primary and last night Democrat turned Republican Parker Griffith was defeated in the AL-05 Republican primary by Mo Brooks (decisively enough in a 3-way race that no runoff will be needed).

Republican Convention Today

You are to be forgiven if you have no idea that the Republicans are meeting today to give out party endorsements.  I have only really seen it discussed on the blogs on the other side of the political spectrum.  But the comments section of those threads have been highly entertaining.

God Wants Glenn Urquhart to Win

I guess because his first name starts with the letter “G” too, or something. But Bill Colley speaking for God is not the story. The story is that WGMD talkshow host and blogger Bill Colley apparently is now a bought and paid for shill for the Glenn Urquhart campaign.
