Contemptible Congress

When I was a wee lad, I had the utmost respect for Congress. I was in awe of my then Congressman, Byron Rodgers (D-Denver) who was the essence of a public servant. I was good friends with Congresswoman Pat Schroeder and Congressman & Senator Tim Wirth (who was a neighbor). That all changed after I moved to DC and began working for the government. I discovered that many of the 539 Members of Congress (including the delegates from DC, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands) didn’t really give a damn about their constituents. It was all about getting face time on TV to make it seem as though they were doing something.

This afternoon, Rep. Darrell Issa, chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, pushed through a resolution holding Attorney General Eric Holder in “Contempt of Congress.” Better add my name to that resolution, Issa, because I hold you and the Teabag 112th Congress in the utmost contempt. Obstruction is the motto of this Congress.

It is a major cause of the government disfunction right now. Also, Republicans control the media. They have their own 24/7 media outlet and it is treated by […]

The White House Smacks Dick Around

After Dick Cheney emerged from Potterville to chime in about the attempted terrorist attack on Flight 253, the White House responded on its blog. To put it simply: this President is not interested in bellicose rhetoric, he is focused on action. Seven years of bellicose rhetoric failed to reduce the threat from al Qaeda and […]

30K New Troops to Afghanistan

Filed in International, National by on December 1, 2009 37 Comments

The Presidant gave a speech this evening to West Point cadets. The strategy is the surge part deux.  30,000 new troops to Afghanistan to stabilize the situation and support the shitty government there.  Then start pulling the troops out in 18 months.  Many soldiers will miss only a single Christmas. As much as I have […]

Afghanistan: No Good Options

The Obama administration is weighing the options for Afghanistan. General McChrystal has recommended 40,000 new troops and the neocons, including Dick Cheney have been trying to pressure Obama to follow this recommendation. However recommendations for troop increases is not unanimous: In an unexpected dissent at a critical moment, the U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan has warned […]

Chaos Theory?

Filed in National by on July 8, 2009 13 Comments

There’s a certain deliberate chaos to the Obama Administration.  Whether we’re discussing the stimulus, health care or cap and trade, there’s a method – and the method appears to be create diversions while quietly staying on track behind the scenes.  Now, I’m not claiming this will work, but I also don’t think that statements like […]
