Oct. 9 Open Thread: This Just In… Tom Carper Loves Big Pharma…That Is All

The State News looked into the anti-Carper full-page mailers attacking him for his Big Pharma ties. They found the Patients for Affordable Drugs Action but didn’t get a whole lot of answers about any kind of strategic connection among the group’s targets. They did find that the money comes from a Concerned Billionaire while the […]

Fuck Joe Manchin – Part II

Filed in National by on October 8, 2018 7 Comments

To all of this, I say “good!” CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Danielle Walker cried on Joe Manchin’s shoulder after she shared her story of sexual assault in the senator’s office. She thought he listened. The 42-year-old Morgantown woman said she was both devastated and furious when Manchin became the only Democrat in the U.S. Senate […]

Who is going to primary John Carney?

Who is going to primary John Carney?

At this point, with the Democratic Party in a state of flux as new members rush into replace a moribund old guard, it is a given that Carney is going to face a primary. He looks weak, and he hasn’t won any dedicated supporters from within the party to forestall an insider’s attempt. And he sure as hell hasn’t impressed anyone outside of the party. So who will it be?

Song Of The Day: Oct. 8, 2018

Filed in National by on October 8, 2018 1 Comment

There’s little doubt that Willie Dixon was the greatest songwriter of what is known as ‘Chicago Blues’. His songs have been covered by everybody. We’re talking classics.  I’m gonna feature his songs all week. You won’t believe how familiar you are with his work w/o knowing that it was his work. Here’s one originally performed […]

Oct. 7 Open Thread: Mopping Up the Puke

America today is like Brett Kavanaugh’s Yale dorm bathroom: Vomit-stained as a result of a depraved display of privilege, power and irresponsibility. And though Democrats made it close for quite a while, some argue they dropped the ball by failing to react to Kavanaugh’s angry outbursts with any kind of real-time passion. Josh Marshall points […]

The Kavanaugh False Narrative

Filed in National by on October 6, 2018 17 Comments

So… the media has been framing the Kavanaugh “debate” around who do you believe? Do you believe Christine Blasey Ford or do you believe Brett Kavanaugh. That’s a bullshit construct though. The question is not who do you believe, but does it matter that Brett Kavanaugh did that shit? Everyone knows he did it. By […]

Thanks Hillary!

Thanks Hillary!

It is times like these when I feel really sick about the fact that the Democrats nominated an unpopular, deeply flawed candidate to take on the publicity savvy carnival barker.

How can I be so sure “Women for Kavanaugh” are paid professional protesters?

Filed in National by on October 6, 2018 2 Comments

Only this…

Women for Kavanaugh, and many others who support this very good man, are gathering all over Capital Hill in preparation for a 3-5 P.M. VOTE. It is a beautiful thing to see – and they are not paid professional protesters who are handed expensive signs. Big day for America!

I agree with Donald Trump Jr. – Fuck Joe Manchin

Filed in National by on October 6, 2018 9 Comments

No sooner had Joe Manchin announced that he would be voting for Brett Kavanaugh, Donald Trump Jr. trolled him with this tweet

A real profile in courage from Lyin’ liberal @JoeManchinWV. Waited until Kavanugh had enough votes secured before he announced his support. I bet he had another press release ready to go if Collins went the other way.

West Virginia – Vote for champion @MorriseyWV!

…and he is right. Manchin deserves all the scorn Trump Jr (and the voters of West Virginia) can heap on him.

When Democrats give voters the choice between a real Republican and a fake Republican the only reasonable choice for Republicans is to vote for the real Republican. Similarly, the only reasonable choice for Democrats is to not vote.

When Democrats vote for collaborationist lackeys like Manchin who support the GOP in their ongoing criminal and anti-American activities, all they are doing is weakening the efforts of Democrats who are trying to oppose the GOP in their ongoing criminal and anti-American activities.

Bottom line – Fuck Joe Manchin.

Soon we will be asked to accept that Brett Kavanaugh is a wise and even-handed judge

Filed in National by on October 5, 2018 8 Comments

Chris Coons will be leading the march to rehabilitate Judge Drunky Blackout-Rapist. Why? Because we all have to pretend that the Supreme Court is virtuous, great and mighty and that the Senate that voted him in is dignified and above board.

Pretend, pretend, pretend or it all comes crashing down. Duncan Black said it first, and better.

This will be the impulse if Kavanaugh is confirmed. For the good of the country, we must respect the majesty of the Senate and the glory of our constitution and most of all the supreme respectability and nonpartisanitude of the Supreme Court and the majest of the LAW. Whatever the reality.

Pressures to conform will be high. Pointing out that the club is maggot infested garbage is the quickest way to get yourself kicked out of the club.

It will still fall to assholes like me* on the internet.

Oct. 5 Open Thread: Drunken, Lying, Privileged Partisan Hacks Are People, Too

I’m starting to wonder if the Republicans haven’t overplayed their hand on Brett Kavanaugh. For a day or two they gained ground in polls by stoking the fires of white grievance, even stampeding the press and people who should know better (lookin’ at you, Nate Silver) into believing that Republicans were so angry about his […]

Song of the Day – 80s/protest/Gay Wrap Up – The Pogues “Fairytale of New York”

Filed in National by on October 5, 2018 0 Comments

It isn’t a protest song per se, but this Pogues song captures the scam that has been run on the middle class and poor and squeezes it into a Christmas song that is maudlin, happy, nostalgic, and timely all at the same time. The fairytale of New York is also the fairytale of America and […]
