How do you ask a question wanting to know what an elected official has done that doesn’t upset partisan supporters looking for a reason to make something partisan?

A few weeks ago I asked a serious qotd.  Lulu, our adopted/rescued basset hound had recently bitten my son.  Again.  The overwhelming response was to get rid of her in some fashion or another. 

I just did today and I’m sad.  Really sad.  I’m sad because I don’t know if the people adopting her know what they are getting into and will be able to handle her.  I don’t know if I cared for her the best I should have, but will they?  It really breaks my heart and I’m overwhelmed with sadness right now.  Much more so than I ever thought I would be.  She really was as good girl.  Yes, she peed in the house more times then I can count.  She fought with Roscoe more times than I can count as well.  She was an awful companion for Roscoe and she was a liability in our home.  She would climb on the kitchen table, dig in the trash, and essentially be a dog.  Unlike Roscoe who is dumber than a box of rocks and watches Lulu do what she does with wonderment. 

But I think I loved her and I know my wife did.  I’m listening to Mad World right now and this fucking music is bumming me out.  I can’t even have a god damned drink either!

Now, poor Roscoe who is so god damned clueless is walking around the house from room to fucking room.  He just put his snout on my leg and is looking like the saddest sack of potatoes one can imagine.  For all her faults Lulu was a soft snuggley dog that loved attention and demanded it and she got it too. 

I’m sorry Lulu, I really hope you are better off with your 3rd set of owners.  The house is going to be different without y0u.

You are right to point out the bad actions of many banks. They have gone from too big to fail and now they are too big to regulate.

Sad to say they got a lot of money on a failure model. The hopes would be people would fail to pay credit cards on time, fail to pay mortgages because they covered their bets with financial instruments and all in all got great government money (1%) and loan it out sparingly.

You see, eventually a Republican even gets it. I hope MP has the money to run this year. I am pretty sure that as a Republican in Delaware that wants to regulate banks, you would get tons of donations.

I get unemployment benefits I really do.  I also get that in this global economy jobs that many had aren’t coming back.  Which means that while people are on benefits they need to utilize that time and money to “retool” so to speak.  Sure, WAY easier said than done.  Laughably I can’t even believe I wrote that.  I have been on u/e and it sucked.  I was lucky my spouse worked and with the u/e and her income we scraped by and our credit card debt increased.  We are now in the process of paying it down, but of course the obvious car repairs came into play as well as a broken skylight and other household repairs not on the radar.  I didn’t retool at all.  I took care of my newborn son and read a lot.  I massaged my resume and learned how to interview and tell an employer I can learn and do anything you throw at me.  That won’t work for the several millions of u/e people in this country.  It barely worked for me. 

But, my question/thought is I get when people say there shouldn’t be unemployment benefits.  Yes, the Malkins of the world are horrible human beings that view out of work people like they do a pimple.  their xenophobia is horrible for our country and does nothing to force the adult discussions we need to have in this country. 

So I have multiple questions. I have so much time to drive to work now that my head thinks of this stuff.  Not good, I know.

If unemployment benefits were extended for a specific dollar amount and specific number of weeks wouldn’t more people take those jobs that supposedly only illegals will do?  People will eventually suck up their pride and find ways to provide for their family and themselves when they have too.  (maslow’s hierarchy of need comes to mind here)

If unemployment benefits were extended for a specific dollar amount and specific number of weeks wouldn’t our economy fall back to a normal healthy balance? 

Also, by penalizing people so much for not paying their bills haven’t we made it impossible for people to start over?  Usery is a real problem in this country and the people that fall from one social status to the other have a real challenge climbing back up with the predators allowed to exploit them.

It seems to me that part of the problem is the safety net we have created has extended to corporate welfare and now the banks can’t let the economy settle back to a normal sustainable level.  The mess created by personal credit has inflated housing and car prices, income levels and the cost of everything to the point it takes 2 incomes to support a barely middle class lifestyle.    the banks and who ever else need tax credits to get us to spend money.  they need tax breaks to give to charity.  they need subsidies to grow food we want to eat. 

I don’t have all the answers and this is just some out loud thinking.  but I would like to see some discussion today regarding this line of thinking.

We need a hard crash and a lot of people have to lose a lot of money (by that I mean uber rich and corporations)  If you think about what the average costs are of owning a home and car and then use the avg income for american citizens the numbers are hardly in line.  It isn’t sustainable. 

What we are doing right now, Obama included, is just fucking ourselves in the future.  We can’t press the reset button, but we can’t sustain our country this way.  Nothing has changed in the past 2 years.  No price changes anywhere and job losses are still growing.

We here at Del Lib…ok me…want to see some videos ANYONE has of themselves.  I don’t even need videos.  I will take an anonymous email about how you are trying to stage your own personal Debtor’s Revolt.  I’m not going to lie and say I would love to hear from local people that are in dire straits and have had some success with a video or email similar to the crazies on youtube.  I’ve heard stories how those videos work.   Some video of you pounding your monitor and crying.  I personally, and I’m not kidding here, think it is freaking awesome that this has actually worked in the past. 

I don’t know if people realize it or not, but in Delaware, we have a few banks.  And, AND!  some of those banks recieved a few billion dollars of our bailout money.  All the way down to the Dupont family bank aka Wilmington Trust. 

Send me what you have.  Send us your lamentations.  We will post them here for all the pols of delaware to read.  The politicians will read it too. 

Hell, I would even LOVE to see an ACORN style video of a local politician trying to set up a bank that he has a mortgage or a very large loan with.  It doesn’t even have to be delinquent, but that would make it much more believable.  Wouldn’t it be sweet to learn that some local nutbag, crackerjack of a politician that we would all immediately be able to identify is in the business of trying to play a game of gotcha with a big multi billion dollar bank that recieved billions of our bail out dollars. 

I hope, just hope that someone anyone out there is willing to share their victimized story with me at donviti at yahoodotcom.  Man, I would love to hear a great story about a guy that had some success with a local bank after he made a video.
