What Your Tax Dollars Are Doing Instead of Working for You

Filed in National by on January 14, 2019

Joe DiStefano of the Philadelphia Inquirer does what the News Journal doesn’t have the manpower or inclination to do: Hold the feet of Delaware’s corrupt Democratic Party to the fire.

Last week he attended a New Castle County Council meeting with the Philadelphia traders who set up the Delaware Board of Trade — the one Mike Ramone made a bundle on — as they explained why, after four years, they still haven’t come up with enough outside investment to pay back the $3 million they borrowed from the county when Tom Gordon was busy aggrandizing himself.

Beforehand, county exec Matt Meyer told DiStefano that since 2015 “the hundreds of local jobs promised by this company have failed to materialize. This company owes New Castle County residents their money back from this unlawful use of taxpayer funds.” That tough talk fell flat in the actual meeting.

Because DiStefano doesn’t cover the county government regularly, he doesn’t have to tread lightly, as a beat reporter would. So, as a columnist, he’s free to conclude his adventure by telling one of the Philly traders, “They never laid a glove on you.” Follow the link for the pathetic details.

BTW, h/t to the right-wing-welfare Caesar Rodney Institute for the email that brought the column to my attention. When you live in a one-party state, any sign of opposition is welcome. Note that the Delaware Republican Party isn’t willing to blow the whistle on stuff like this. Mike Ramone certainly didn’t. That’s the Delaware Way — don’t blow the whistle, just get in on the action.

No open thread so I’ll leave this here.

If you don’t understand why people support Bernie take a look at this. And if the fact that the person who made this argument has an I next to their state rather than a D I suggest you reevaluate your political priorities.

Our money goes towards killing innocent people and to pay our already wealthy legislators both a salary and in power.
