Song(ssss) Of The Day: Nov. 15, 2018

Some of my favorite shows showcase people who aren’t well-known yet. I usually joke that our goal is to help them get to the point where we can no longer afford them. One of those shows took place on a snowy night back in January of 2010. A really good crowd, considering the weather, showed up and loved the show Wow, I even found the original pub for the show:

XPN Welcomes Acoustic Cafe: An Evening with Carrie Rodriguez, Ben Sollee and Madi Diaz

Saturday January 30, 2010 – $15 members, $20 all the rest

Catch three already-acclaimed artists stlll at the beginning of their careers. Roots Music Association Songwriter of the Year Carrie Rodriguez (who was here in Arden a few years back with her band, playing fiddle and guitar); Ben Sollee, chosen one of NPR’s Top 10 Unknown Artists of the Year (former cellist for Abigail Washburn and Bela Fleck in the Sparrow Quartet); and Madi Diaz, not only an alumna of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of Young Friends (so were my kids), but also hailed as one of SXSW’s Most Buzzworthy Acts by Paste Magazine.

Hear them in an acoustic setting while we can still afford them!

Check out these performers:

This was from the show the night after ours. They did this gorgeous song at the Hall as well:

Another Carrie song from the same timeframe:

Oh, and Ben Sollee is a marvel. Don’t believe me?:

Madi Diaz’ dad couldn’t make it to the show that night b/c he was performing in a Frank Zappa Tribute Band, which is appropriate for the guy who ran Delaware’s School Of Rock. Here’s a song that she and Kyle Ryan performed that night:

I just love nights like these. Here’s to many more at the Gild Hall.
