Daily Thread For Nov. 9, 2018: Keystone Pipeline Springs Legal Leak

Filed in Featured, National by on November 9, 2018

Something tells me this will get people talking. Federal judge halts construction of Keystone pipeline. Why?:

A federal judge late Thursday blocked construction of the disputed Keystone XL oil pipeline, saying the Trump administration “simply discarded” the effect the project would have on climate change.

Even by Trumpian standards, this Whitaker guy is a, what’s the word I’m looking for, ‘deplorable’. One more thing he and Trump have in common–scams. I think he’s gone within a week.

Schadenfreude much? Despicable Wisconsin governor Scott Walker can’t ask for a recount because…of a law he signed to discourage those pesky recounts.

Rethugs trotting out Bush v Gore talking points as Florida races tighten.

What do you want to talk about?

  1. Anon says:

Almost everything you use is derived from petroleum. What are you going to replace it with?

    • Alby says:

The amount used for anything but fuel is miniscule. Look it up.

      • Anon says:

Refining economics would make it dramatically more expensive to optimize for those products. The economics of refining aside, you will still have a ton of leftover product. There is no way around it so don’t avoid the question. What will you replace it with?

        • Beach says:

Can you help me out with a breakdown of the refining economics? What do you mean by a “ton of leftover product?”

          • Alby says:

He means that most of the products of petroluem refining are fuels; the minority of it goes to other uses. If you eliminate the fuel, the majority of the petroleum goes to waste.

The answer, of course, is that once plastic gets more expensive manufacturers will stop using it. It’s a win-win — no carbon fuel, no plastics.

        • Alby says:

Oooh, now he pretends to know something! “Optimize”! Look at the big brain on Anon!

If plastic becomes more expensive, that’s all for the good.

        • Alby says:

@Beach: He really doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Take “almost everything” being made from petroleum….really? All my clothes are cotton, wool, linen or silk — no plastic. No plastic in the books I read. No plastic in my kitchenware. Floors are wood and tile, walls fiberboard. (Some of the parts in the refrigerator are plastic, but I’d be happy to see them go back to using aluminum, because plastic cracks when it’s cold, which is why they use it.)

In short, the only people who think “everything” is made from petroleum are petroleum workers. Even ones surfing blogs they don’t understand on company time.

Just got off the phone with the Coons and Carper DC offices begging them to do something about this. My calls were prompted by the fact that Coons & Flake want a new law to prevent the Muller Investigation from being messed with. I call BS; Dirty Don and his group of criminals would ignore that law as they do any other that gets in their way.
This time it’s the appointment of Whitaker. There is a law already on the books that stipulates who can be appointed US AG if the AG is removed from office. The Big shaved-head, con man, hot-tub huckster from Iowa, idiot, tRump appointed does not meet the criteria of the statute.
Why isn’t Coons screaming the the appointment is unConstitutional already? Rosenstein ought to be telling Whitaker he ain’t getting a drop of info about the investigation because he has been illegally appointed to the AG position.
The only hope I have that anything like this may be happening is that Rosenstein’s attorney was seen entering the DC Circuit Court late yesterday afternoon. I hope that this complaint is being set in motion and will lead to at least one Federal Judge stating that the appointment of Whitaker is illegal and invalid!

  3. Beach says:

Reminder that we now have Allan Loudell on WDEL in the mornings!

  4. Mike Dinsmore says:

Beach – Does this mean that the execrable Susan Monday is off the air? I haven’t listened to WDEL since they fired Al Mascitti.

If what you say is true, WDEL may be worth listening to again.

    • I think she’ll still be on the downstate station.

    • Beach says:

Yeah, same here. I haven’t listened to WDEL in a long time but Allan replaced SuMo.

    • Alby says:

I really wasn’t fired. You can check with them. I told them I wouldn’t do a softball show and if they didn’t like it they should find someone else and I’d take my severance pay without complaint. And that’s how it went down. It just took them 4 extra months to make up their minds.

  5. RE Vanella says:

Audio was laid down last night in a proof of concept pilot episode. Concept was proven.

After the editing process (we want to deliver quality content!) you’ll hear an election reax podcast with El Som and yours truly.

Al M will be broadcasting again very soon.

    • Beach says:

He should have a lot to report back from his time in France with Trump at the military parade. Can’t wait!

      • Alby says:

Anti-Trump protest is planned for Sunday at Place de la Republique, which is two blocks from our apartment.

  6. Annnnd, you’re gone. The anon troll, that is. He’ll be back as he’s been banned before but seems to have an endless supply of IP addresses.
