Colleen Davis could have used a primary

In style and substance Ken Simpler is the Brett Kavanaugh of Delaware politics. A vote for Simpler is a vote for Trump. He should be in the fight of his political life right now, he isn’t.

Colleen Davis announced her run against Simpler in June, then nothing. A primary race would have allowed her to get some earned media, sharpen her message, build her team, raise money and start hitting Simpler where he is weak – on the fact that he is a Trump-loving Republican.

It cost $4,623.28 to file for Treasurer. That could have been a good early investment.

That said, Kathy Jennings got a primary and where’s her campaign?

DAGSBORO – Colleen Davis of Dagsboro is running as a Democratic candidate for Delaware State Treasurer.

She filed with the Delaware Department of Elections Friday, June 15.

Davis, 38, is a health care professional based in Dagsboro. She has focused on sustainability, efficiency, and quality-of-care for health care providers and their patients – experience she believes would serve her well in the treasurer’s office.

“I am honored to announce my candidacy for treasurer for the state of Delaware,” Ms. Davis said. “As a consultant for major hospital systems, I know what it takes to develop sustainability amid an ever-changing economic landscape. I’ve gained an understanding of the complexities of creating economic growth on a large scale, realizing efficiencies, improving quality-of-care, and increasing viability – all while never losing focus on meeting the needs of the public.”

Ms. Davis says that ensuring the long-term financial health of the state, while advocating for the needs of its residents, are not mutually exclusive. “My experience as a consultant, clinician, and business leader has allowed me to cultivate honest, trusting relationships with people of various backgrounds,” she said. “As treasurer, I can be a conduit between Delawareans and policy makers to ensure our financial planning puts people first.”

  1. I take your point. Problem is, that would have been money down the drain. Money that first-time candidates don’t have.

I’ve met Colleen Davis and she is VERY impressive.

Like you, I was concerned about her campaign. I went to her campaign page, and it’s clear that she is indeed attending all the D political events. Yes, her campaign has been quiet. Too quiet. But I don’t know what she should do right now rather than marshaling party support. There are more D’s than R’s.

But Simpler’s got all the Delaware Way money. And that’s the problem. Do I think he should be challenged on the drinking thing? Yes. But she shouldn’t be the one to do it.

    Maybe it starts with–me.
