Oct. 1 Open Thread: Coons’ Pyrrhic Victory

Filed in National, Open Thread by on October 1, 2018

So Chris Coons did all that for nothing. Republicans have made clear that they won’t actually investigate Kavanaugh, because if they did they couldn’t get him confirmed. They’re OK with that, having decided that the House is already lost but fighting for Kavanaugh will help the GOP’s chances of keeping the Senate. Expect the clamor over the sham investigation to grow louder, as more people like this guy come forward with tales of Beer-Breath Brett’s ugly drunken behavior.

The other prong of the Kavanaugh defense involves attacking the assault victim, which, let’s face it, is something Republicans love to do anyway. Even Grade-D shitbag Joseph di Genova, Salesianum alum and GOP bootlicker since the Clinton administration, made headlines by attacking Christine Blasey Ford:

“Quite frankly, her testimony the other day was far from credible. She’s a very, very disturbed woman with clear emotional and psychological problems. This is a 55-year-old adult who testified like an adolescent. Not a single corroborating detail.”

In fact, the whole Kavanaugh candidacy is a rank power play by the GOP, a test of how far they can ride the resentment train.

Trump humper Devin Nunes has been hiding a big secret for more than a decade: The family farm in California that he references incessantly was sold in 2006, and the rest of the family bought a new dairy farm in Iowa, which they apparently run with the help of a lot of immigrant labor. This can’t possibly help his re-election campaign.

A staffer for Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum was fired over some old tweets, including one in which he said Trump deserved to be executed. Which just goes to show that telling the truth can be fatal in politics.

Late addition: A piece by a former Georgetown Prep student, detailing pretty much what you could have guessed the school was like — a snobatorium combining the worst features of a Catholic all-boys education with rich-kid snottiness.

I continue to be amazed that NOBODY in national media is drawing the obvious line from a misogynist creep like Kavanaugh to being educated by a criminal conspiracy posing as a religion.

…a criminal conspiracy posing as a religion.

    How do you really feel?

I mean they ran a global rape and pedophilia ring and conspired to cover it up for like 50 years. Is he wrong?

  4. Alby says:

If the Catholic Church were anything other than a religion and was caught covering up for pedophiles for decades and refused to allow women into the ranks of its hierarchy, it would be sued out of existence.

Religion deserves no special accommodation from the rest of us, and until we banish that from the Constitution this country will be the shithole it is. Religions’ claim of primacy over secular institutions has, and should have, no place in the modern world. Their fantasies of supernaturalism should be consigned to the world of hucksters and con men for all, not just for those who have enough sense to see through this charade.

OK, kids. I have reading to do. I’m signing out.

Last thing. Go give money to Don Allan. I’ll start. I just gave $300.

How about you all try to get donations together to match me?

Thirty tens is three bills. Do it. There are 30 cats out there with a ten-spot to help out Don.
