Aug. 20 Open Thread: The Case of the Vanishing Republicans

Filed in National, Open Thread by on August 20, 2018

The underreported story of the midterms is the exodus of Republicans from elected office. Dave Wasserman of the Cook Political Report notes that one of every six incumbent Republicans is not running again, which is increasing the odds of a blue wave. So we’re one-sixth of the way to a solution of the country’s problems.

Rudy Giuliani is another Trumpkin I try to avoid writing, talking or thinking about, but sometimes he says something so bonkers it can’t be ignored. So it was yesterday, when he uttered the soon to be infamous line, “Truth isn’t truth!” This was in response to Chuck Todd pointing out that a “perjury trap” can be avoided simply by telling the truth. I know a Republican-approved way of getting the truth out of him. It involves a visit to Abu Ghraib.

Disgraced Congressman and Tea Party shitstain Blake Farenthold still refuses to reimburse taxpayers the $84,000 he paid out in a sexual harassment settlement, and in court filings won’t even take responsibility for but because he believed the “Me Too” movement would bias the House Ethics Committee against him.

Oval Office shitstain Trump taunted former CIA director John Brennan and dared him to sue over the revocation of Brennan’s security clearance. I fully support such a lawsuit, and suggest that Trump be deposed at Abu Ghraib.

On the Police Gone Wild front, a Georgia police chief defends one of his officers for tasering an 87-year-old woman who was cutting dandelions because she “still had the ability to hurt an officer.” For people who brag about facing danger, they sure are a bunch of wussies.

  1. Dana Garrett says:

Too many police officers in this country are just thugs and muggers hiding behind the overly wide toleration of the use of force allotted to police officers. It’s a widespread problem and too many officers get off from their excessive use of force in cases where one can visibly see that they were in the wrong.
