July 27 Open Thread: Cleanup in Aisle Trump

Filed in National, Open Thread by on July 27, 2018

Trumpworld’s seams haven’t come apart, but they’re getting looser now that Trump Co.’s CFO has been subpoenaed.

Mike Pompeo and John Bolton apparently see their job the same way their predecessors did: Damage control and toxic cleanup.

How did the Europeans talk Trump off the trade-war ledge? Apparently by using colorful cue cards to walk him through the complexities. Also, the EU president told him, “If you want to be stupid, I can be stupid as well.”

From the Schadenfreude files, grade-A dirtbag “Papa” John Schnatter has filed suit in Delaware Chancery Court against the company’s board of directors. He’s also claiming he didn’t “use” the N-word but was just quoting Col. Sanders, which might make more of a difference if he hadn’t quoted Sanders to try to exonerate his own bad behavior.

Despite the gay-panic response of Delaware politicians, the right of transgender people to use the proper school bathroom has been upheld again by a federal court.

Finally, in science news that could not possibly be any cooler, astrophysicists studying stars that orbit the massive black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy again affirmed Einstein’s theory of relativity.

    Trump has a nifty built in defense when his accountants and lawyers start singing. He has paid them to lie their asses off for 20 years.

    Hannity: “How can you trust that testimony? They are professional liars.”

    things i think about in cold panic sweats….. Will the GOP impeach him between getting slaughtered in the election and having to pass the speakership (aka, next vp) to a Dem? 2019 could start with President Ryan and VP Paul.

  3. Alby says:

    @j: That cuts both ways.

  4. Alby says:

    @ben: Worry about Pence instead.

  5. mediawatch says:

    Ben: how did you panic-sweat Pence out of your picture?

  6. Ben says:

    He’s a co-conspirator. I’d bet that fuckface would try and throw him under the bus before Fredo. If he tosses Pence to his magats, they’ll go along with it.

    and unpopular opinion, but screw ya’ll 😉 , I’m also not worried at all about “president Pence” if the dems have even one chamber. He is not a leader, he enjoys no faction loyalty… He inspires NO magatry, and by 2020 the #Resistance(tm) will still be amped up to beat some gop ass.

    My dream scenerio is this:

    Open on Oval Office. Trump crosses from desk to meet Pence in the middle of the room.

    Trump: Well Mike, it is time. Just like we talked about, right? Full pardon for me and Ivanka after you take the oath.

    Pence: Yes, Sir. We are good to go.

    Cut to Pence at the podium in a news conferecne.

    Reporter: Mr. President, have you conisdered a pardon for Mr. Trump or anyone in his admistration.

    Zoom close up on Pence

    Pence: (to the camera) No. He isn’t getting pardoned. Nobody is above the law in this country.

  8. Alby says:

    @ben: Actually the fundies adore Pence. That’s not enough to win in 2020, but the “Christians” will be even more loyal to him than they are to Trump.

  9. ben says:

    Im ok with that. They are a dying breed and if their leader isnt urging them to go bring holy jesus-fire to the libs, and just to pray and send money….. I can live with that. NO need to save the dupes, just enough people to keep the dupes from being in power.

    Some priceless quotes in that piece. And by “priceless” I mean disgusting.

    From Carper:

    “The core of the Democratic Party in Delaware could be defined by Matthew 25: ‘I was naked and you clothed me, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,’” Carper said in an interview. “We have a moral imperative to help the least in our society. But because we don’t have unlimited resources, unlimited money, we have a fiscal imperative to do that in a responsible way.”

    From Coons:

    “I think the success of Joe Biden led many people to think that this is a safe blue state,” said Coons, referring to the 36-year senator. “Democrats barely control the state legislature. Sussex County is deeply red. Kent County is purple. New Castle County is blue. You’ve got to show up to win, and Tom Carper shows up.”

    Liked your comment at BD “But because we don’t have unlimited resources, unlimited money, we have a fiscal imperative to do that in a responsible way.”

    My bible doesn’t have that version of Matthew 25
