In Disaster of Biblical Proportions, Kennedy Retires

Filed in National by on June 27, 2018

At some liberal web sites pundits already see rivers and seas boiling, fire and brimstone falling from the sky, and the walls in the 39th precinct bleeding.

Cooler heads point out that Kennedy was no centrist; by one rating he was the 10th most conservative justice of the 20th century. But he did provide the votes to keep the barbarians at bay on a number of civil and human rights issues, which is why liberal garments are being rent. in fact, you can’t swing a rainbow flag today without hitting a liberal pundit who has declared LGBT and women’s reproductive rights as good as gone.

It is true that conservatives will have their way with the courts until after the midterms at the earliest, and with winning the Senate a less-than-likely prospect, probably until 2020. But dismantling the framework of established rights will not happen overnight.

Remember, too, that every one of the court’s conservative decisions is against majority sentiment on the issues involved, just like most of the laws Republicans are passing. A quip mistakenly attributed to Churchill maintains “America will always do the right thing, after it has exhausted all other possibilities.” You could add, “and only after they feel some pain.” Many white Americans have not yet felt the pain from Trump personally. Most don’t know any immigrants ICE has seized, most don’t work in the industries disrupted by tariff threats, most don’t have relatives banned from entering the U.S. But as the economy declines and the lives of bigots in the boondocks fail to improve, the appeal of giving libtards the finger is wearing off.

After the Oklahoma teachers’ strike in April, 100 teachers across the state filed to run for office, in both parties. Half of them either won outright Tuesday or proceeded to runoffs. Oklahomans also approved medical marijuana with 57%. This is a state where Hillary Clinton got 29% of the vote. It isn’t trending very conservative these days.

Our positions are supported by the majority of the people. We can only lose if we give up.
