Breaking: Trump Says He’ll Sign Executive Order to End Separation of Families

Filed in National by on June 20, 2018

It’s Trump, so I’ll believe it when I see it, but he says he’s “signing something”, meaning an executive order, later today to end the practice. I’ll applaud after I see the details. The legislative solution was going to incarcerate families together, but it was pointed out that it would merely punt the problem to the courts. Considering this solution will be crafted by the same people who crafted the problem on purpose in the first place, I’m not overly optimistic.

By signing “something,” he admits the lie that his hands were tied and he was just following the law. Following the law does not get cured by EO. Of course, catching him in a lie is like shooting fish in a barrel. Getting him to admit the lie, that’s the challenge.

I don’t blame Trump though. He never pretended to be anything other than what he was. Well…he pretends not to be blowhard, but lets overlook that. The people I do blame are those who voted for him or who did not vote for his opponent.

Not so fast fat boy, after endless attempts to blame the Dems and Sessions pathetic attempts to invoke the bible this story ain’t goin’ nowhere fast. Suspect we’ll hear assorted tails of mistreatment, and I’ve read that there is no real plan for reuniting families. Should be interesting to watch the attempts at damage control, hoping it resembles the Keystone Cops.

  3. Alby says:

So it’s the same plan the GOP was working a bill on: They’ll lock up everyone together. After 20 days, they will be in violation of a federal court order, at which point Trump can blame the courts, which he would like to turn people against anyway.

Liberals should focus on the hundreds of thousands of “Legal” Americans living on the streets throughout the country…

How many more? Especially kids “lost”….where did they go? to a pedophile home? whose investigating?

  6. lebay says:

    @Tom Kline–

Conservatives should focus on all the babies born out of wedlock…

  7. Liberal Elite says:

Conservatives should focus on ethics and morality…

They’ve certainly abandoned all of their religious tenets, and are now only pretending.

  8. jason330 says:

Is this the first instance of Trump backing down on something due to pressure since taking the oath of office? Or just the first instance to make the news?

  9. Here’s the big problem. There are more than 2400 kids who have been taken from their parents. And it doesn’t look like anyone in the government even thought about how they would be reunited.

Oh, and supposedly the Executive Order only extends to those arrested going forward. No provisions for ‘grandfathering’ those who already were separated.

  10. Liberal Elite says:

This is going to get ugly…

It reads like a horror story.

The real horror may turn out to the the heavy use of uncontrolled and unregulated contractors.

  11. Ben says:

Fuck you, Tom. We talk about helping the American poor all the time and you glib mounds of ass cheese talk about boot straps and “why not help___________”. You’re transparent, pathetic, predictable and boring.

  12. RE Vanella says:

You know, our large adult son Tommy isn’t wrong though. He’s not right either, but there is a homelessness problem and nobody mentions it or seems to care.

I guess those of you in the suburbs don’t see much of it. That’s fair enough. But it does exist and ignoring it is tragic.

Of course families fleeing here for safe asylum is, number one, perfectly legal, and, number two, basically how most of our parents, grandparents and/or great grandparents got here. It’s exactly what this country is, so it’s very strange to call it illegal.*
