Open Thread June 18: Child Abduction Ring Operates From White House

Filed in National by on June 18, 2018

I’m guessing the White House wasn’t expecting this level of outrage about its family separation policy, for the simple reason that the desperate reactions among the castle orcs — we’re not separating families/it was an easy decision for us to start separating families — make them look even more like scattering cockroaches than usual. Trump, who thinks in pictures, has to be smarting from the photos of crying children flooding the media, and Democratic politicians like Beto O’Rourke in Texas are holding telegenic rallies outside detention facilities that will get plenty of coverage.

Be sure to call Chris Coons’ office to ask if the Senator is deeply concerned.

If Trump is really lucky, the furor might blunt the growing clamor about the FBI Inspector General’s report, which called attention to the anti-Clinton bias in the agency’s New York office by pointedly ignoring it. Josh Marshall at TPM provides a handy timeline of the copious public evidence that some in the agency hatched a plot to influence the election, and not in Clinton’s favor.

The National Institutes of Health took the unusual step of yanking the funding for a study on the health effects of moderate drinking on cardiovascular health, concluding isn’t public health research, it’s marketing. This could lead to a lot fewer “surprising health news” headlines down the road.

Delaware is far from the only state that went to work on gun control in the wake of the Parkland massacre. HuffPo finds that across the country the most progress was made on the oft-discussed gun rights/mental health boundary, as many states enacted new so-called red-flag laws that make it easier for authorities to take guns from people showing signs of violence and mental illness.

If we start calling now we may be able to move Coons from “deeply concerned” to “troubled”

  2. RE Vanella says:

If Coons and Carper only held some position of power I’m sure they’d do something.

Like if they held seats in the upper house of Congress as an equal branch of the federal government.

    Alas, they’re two centrist cowards.

  3. mouse says:

It amazes that the POS 45 cult members are such apologists for child abuse. These people stand for nothing but their white trash cult support of a reality show pig who validates their prideful white trash bigotry and ignorance.

  4. jason330 says:

Yeah.. you don’t here much about “family values” from them these days.

Thought for the day before the Tunisia v England match kicks off.

Is the Civil Rights Hero crew marching on this issue, or would the humidity smudge Park City’s makeup too much?

  7. bamboozer says:

Trump tried desperately to blame the Dems for the child round up and detention camp game, it failed immediately, made worse with pictures of them putting numbers on the kids. Dare say the arm tattoos come next. And it seems that what the IG report shows is anti Clinton bias at the New York FBI and perhaps a plot to throw the election with an “October surprise”, didn’t help that Giuliani was all over Fox News bragging about it.

  8. Alby says:

Seems “the Democrats can end this by caving to my demands” doesn’t have the moral suasion Trump foresaw. “They could end this kidnapping right now if they’d just pay the ransom.”

  9. mouse says:

I just hope Karma catches up with this monster and his
    white trash supporters

Nominee for comment if the year. Has everything. Beautiful.

Halftime.. Tunisia one… England one… All to play for.

By the way, so I just had my halftime ritual outside the pub. Rolled a lovely one. Delicious.

Met a proper bloke outside. Progeny of someone we know, allegedly.

Much more friendly than his pop, if I’m telling the truth.

  11. RE Vanella says:

Slick winner from Kane at 90 + 1.

    Full time In Volgograd.

    Tunisia 1… England 2.

    Stoney’s is buzzing…… Entertaining match.

  12. Alby says:

“Nominee for comment if the year. … I just had my halftime ritual outside the pub.”

These two statements are closely related.

  13. RE Vanella says:

There was an allegation, no evidence mind, that part of the ritual included utilization of equipment previously used by you. Old metal one banger.

Could be a scurrilous rumour. What do I know. Drug people lie.

  14. Alby says:

Could well be, though if you’re talking about a brass one I think it’s still in my possession.

Missed the match. Was hosting a Mormon pool party.

  15. mediawatch says:

Just wrote to Carper and Coons. Time for them to put up or shut up on bipartisanship. If it works, you should be able to convince a Republican to stand with you and end “zero tolerance” and separation of kids from parents. If it doesn’t, take your pension and go home.

    Here’s the full letter:
Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons,
I have known both of you for many years and have spoken with you many times, and on many of those occasions you have extolled the importance of bipartisanship and the achievements that have resulted from your success in reaching across the aisle.
Today, our nation is facing a grave moral and humanitarian crisis — a “zero tolerance” policy on immigrants wishing to enter our country from Mexico and the forced separation of young children from their immigrant parents and their warehousing within huge detention centers.
I am hearing Democrats express “grave concern” and rail about the depravity of the current administration’s policy, but such verbiage amounts to little more than the “thoughts and prayers” we have grown accustomed to hearing from elected officials of both parties in the wake of recent mass shooting incidents.
I am writing today to ask you to step up and give your constituents — and the nation — proof that your brand of bipartisanship works.
I challenge you to reach out to your Republican colleagues in the Senate and to convince at least one of them to stand with you in support of legislation that would end “zero tolerance” immigration enforcement and the separation of innocent children from their families. If you and nine other Democrats could swing one Republican senator over to the side of morality and justice, this inhumane policy would immediately come to an end.
Further, when you persuade a Republican (and, hopefully, more than one) to stand with you, I urge you to announce his (or her) name, so that senator is held to the pledge.
On the other hand, if you cannot use your skills to achieve success on this critical moral issue, I will have to conclude that your brand of bipartisanship is not effective and that your seat would be better held by one who takes a different approach to governance.

  16. Liz Allen says:

Great letter should be turned into a petition.

NPR stated 66% of democrats polled are outraged. 55% of republicans support it. Can there really be that high number of anti american values, inhumane, morally bankrupt citizens supporting the position of the Commander in Chief Liar?
Trump, his entire regime, the GOP, and the Trump cult were given their marching orders by Newt, “prepare for war”! Newt and the alt right know Trump is guilty, after all 19 are named pro russian. This is state sponsored kidnapping.

  21. RE Vanella says:

This is why the argument about waiting for these people to “die off” is specious.

Politics isn’t about bridging the divide, putting our differences aside or some other bullshit Coons and Caper and Carney would sell you. It’s about winning power, grinding your opponents into the fucking dirt and then doing what needs to be done.
