Get On Board The Kathleen Davies Bandwagon

Filed in Delaware, Featured by on June 12, 2018

Yes, we have an outstanding candidate for State Auditor. One who is building some momentum.

I’ve been slow to recognize this development, but both Kevin Ohlandt and Blue Delaware have been on top of it. Mea culpa.

You just have to read the linked Ohlandt piece, which is great journalism. Turns out the reason that Kathleen Davies was put on ice in the Auditor’s office was b/c, wait for it, Wagner felt she was conducting too many audits of charter schools. Davies had her day in court and was totally vindicated. I also learned some new stuff about would-be careerist Kathy McGuiness in this piece.

Blue Delaware reports that both Delaware United and John Kowalko have endorsed Davies. Looks like Kim Williams won’t be far behind.

Yes, Davies is starting from way back. But McGuiness’ endorsement-based strategy has all the earmarks of Carney’s first campaign for governor. Support a mile wide and an inch deep. Davies has a shot. I’m jumping on board.  She has already given us an indication of what she will do as auditor as she was aggressive as ‘acting auditor’, meaning whenever Wagner couldn’t be bothered to do his job. I like what I saw even though ‘Suspendered Disbelief’ didn’t.

BTW, if you have the time, head down to Democratic HQ on Thursday evening at 7 pm. 19 Commons Blvd. in New Castle. The candidates for auditor will participate in a forum sponsored by Progressive Democrats Of Delaware. I’ve gotta work, but, if you go, please check in with a report.

  1. BTW, festering lackey Mitch Crane gets shamed in Ohlandt’s article as having pulled a Roger Stone (‘Just WAIT until you see what comes out on Davies’). Did I say shamed? That’s impossible. Try shameless. I don’t give a shit whether it’s politically correct. Crane is nothing but a whore.

  2. Rep. Kim Williams says:

I have been working on Kathleen Davies campaign from the beginning. Davies is an experienced and qualified candidate and I am truly excited about her becoming our next auditor. She is approachable, listens and her door is open for suggestions now and when she is elected. If anyone wants to meet with her one-on-one or in a group, she will accommodate you. Let’s elect the the person who is experienced and qualified, not someone who has no experience. This is not a popularity contest, this is about an office that is separate for a reason. We need someone that will represent the people interests and that is Kathleen Davies.

  3. Thanks, Representative. I should’ve known.

  4. Alby says:

I think you mean Roger Stone. Peter Stone does not have a full-back tattoo of Richard Nixon. Roger does.

Btw, this is gonna take a miracle.

  5. puck says:

A track record of fighting waste, fraud, and abuse in public school spending is a helluva campaign message that ought to have bipartisan appeal.

  6. I changed it to Roger Stone.

You’re right. It’s not gonna be easy. Maybe Dennis Williams will drop out. That’s 10 more votes right there.

  7. Rufus Y. Kneedog says:

I know Mr. Kowalko and Ms. Williams are well intentioned here, but I think accepting endorsements is a significant tactical error for Ms. Davies. It was a club that could have been used to mercilessly beat the McGuiness campaign over the head with. Now the issue is muddied.

Thanks for the info on the candidates forum El Som – going to try to be there.

  8. I disagree. McGuiness is the ‘insiders’ candidate and her candidacy represents a thinly-veiled promise to the good old boys that she’ll do nothing to disrupt their ongoing scams. I mean, do you think that McGuiness will investigate whether the state $$’s being funneled into Nicole Poore’s Jobs For Delaware Graduates are being spent properly?

Kowalko and Williams have generally never been insiders. I think their support can help gin up grassroots support.

I get what you’re saying, but it’s not like she’s running an endorsement-based strategy. But when people who generally place the public interest ahead of their own self-interest endorse her, what is she supposed to do? Turn down the endorsements? And it’s not like they’re bandwagon jumpers. They’ve seen her in action and have worked with her.

  9. Rep. Kim Williams says:

Thank you Rufus. The difference between McGuiness and Davies, McGuiness entire campaign is focused on who has endorsed her and McGuiness’s reasoning as to why the voters should vote for her because so and so endorsed her. I have been with Davies from the very beginning and could have put out a formal endorsement early on, but I did not, everyone knows I am supporting her. Davies is smart and a really down-to-earth candidate, which I love! She is approachable and listens when you speak to her. Davies entire campaign is focused on experience and qualifications, she can win this! Go to a forum and see for yourself who is more qualified, you will see it is Davies. There is a Republican, she has established a committee, she appears to have some experience in accounting. In the general election, we need someone who has experience and is qualified on the ticket to go up against the Republican candidate.

  10. Alby says:

It’s not about who’s the best qualified, it’s about who gets their message out there. It will not be easy, with this late start, to accomplish this by September.

  11. Rep. Kim Williams says:

Davies has been up and down the state for the last few months, her name is out there. I am confident folks are listening and engaging. It should be about who is best qualified for the position, Davies for Auditor!!!!

  12. Jerry says:

Thanks for all the kind words from everyone. My wife is an honest woman with allot of integrity. Unfortunetly that job can set u up for allot of headaches and become a target for folks that don’t like what your doing. But she loves what she does. On a side note now that a Republican CPA has filed for Auditor of Accounts the Dems race becomes more important. We need a Democrat that is a CPA to go head to head with them. Vote Kathleen Davies for State Auditor.

  13. Tom Kline says:

Progressive Democrats Of Delaware = Socialist Party.

  14. Liz Allen says:

TKline: GOP and Trump supporters…Russian supporters. Make Yourself Great Again!

  15. RE Vanella says:

    Tom’s absolutely right.

  16. Alby says:

“Progressive Democrats Of Delaware = Socialist Party.”

    Yeah, and?

  17. RE Vanella says:

    We’ve been found out.

  18. Liz Allen says:

Progressive Party of Delaware are socialist…what bullshit. They are progressive, ask them if they are socialist, of course we all are if you break it down. We live in a capitalist country but our SOCIAL programs are socialist. Medicare, Medicaid, Libraries, Ports, Highways, police, fire, legislators, sewers, et al…are all socialist….meaning for the COMMON GOOD.

  19. Alby says:

@Liz: We’re pointing and laughing because when Tom says “socialist” he means “boogeyman.”

  20. puck says:

I finally got around to reading Kevin’s piece on Davies. Holy s**t, and great blogging Kevin.

There are many takeaways but one was the “tip” to OMB of travel expense irregularities, and the News Journal’s stenographic reporting of it. This is a familiar method for Delaware elites to attack their opponents in government – allege expense violations, and get the News Journal and others to gin it up. Worked on Chip Flowers. Difference is, Davies got to subpoena Wagner, who was reduced to a babbling idiot at the hearing, and the charges evaporated.

  21. Alby says:

The most interesting thing about that story is that Mitch Crane had personnel information about Davies, which means someone who shouldn’t be talking about such stuff told it to him.

I hope this teaches anyone still in doubt how much trust they should put in Mitch “I’m Progressive, I Swear” Crane.

  22. RE Vanella says:

Mitch got arrested at a demonstration 45 years ago! Now he a cop-stan and a party insider/apologist.

I’ll give the guy this though. When challenged he admitted he supports friends who’ve done him favors. At least he’s honest.

He also wrote a pedantic, snivelling letter to the editor Sunday. I didn’t mention it here because it was so embarrassing to the poor guy.

  23. Alby says:

I had to go digging for it because I don’t subscribe. It purported to defend the 14th RD for endorsing Park City Kathy, but it was really just a way to get her name out there again.

It deserves a response from someone or two who will use the opportunity to get Kathleen Davies’ names out there. This letter is almost word-for-word the same bullshit he posted at That Other Blog, so it clearly was professionally polished for wide distribution (you’d think we were in 1818, for Christ’s sake). A letter-to-the-editor war would benefit Davies; Park City’s name is already out there, Davies’ is not.

I know it’s not popular to say so, but these down-ballot races are decided almost entirely by name recognition, which is why it sucks to be Dennis “E.” Williams — lots of people know that name because of another guy who ran it into the ground.

  24. RE Vanella says:

It was ostensibly a rebuttal to Don Peterson’s letter taking issue with RD-14 endorsing when, as explained by Mitch an insider and pedant, the party actually “recommended”.

It’s distinction without a difference except some line buried in the bylaws.

Vote Davies. Davies. Like Ray Davies of the Kinks. British pronunciation “Davis”.

    K. Davies!
