Delaware Political Weekly: June 1-7, 2018

1. It’s Official: Sturgeon vs. Lavelle. Monsignor Lavelle has filed, much to the delight of the NRA. The Senator earned the monicker ‘monsignor’ by supporting the Catholic Diocese’s cover-up of pedophile priests and opposing granting victims the right to sue. He effectively became a human rain delay by denying victims of abuse by clergy the right to damages for years.  You know, while I’m at it, we’re past due for a survey of just a few of Lavelle’s greatest hits.  Here we go:

Lavelle works himself into a creamy froth over Occupy Delaware.

Lavelle opposes damages for the victims of serial molester Dr. Earl Bradley.

Plenty more to come.

2. Kerri Harris Rolling Out Concerted Canvassing Effort? Looks like it. Got an invitation for a group canvass. While I’ll be helping Chris Johnson this weekend, I’ll be back knocking doors for Kerri soon. If you can, I recommend that you knock doors for someone.

3.  Hollins vs. White In NCC District 4. Longtime County Council member Penrose Hollins filed for reelection, setting up a primary with semi-perennial candidate Vincent White.

4. R Primary In Lower Slower.  Two are now vying to replace State Rep. David Wilson, who is running for the Senate seat held by retiring Gary Simpson.  Jesse Vanderwende and Bob Mitchell have filed in the 35th RD, which encompasses Lincoln, Bridgeville, Greenwood, and part of Georgetown. Mitchell filed last week. Vanderwende is a chicken farmer and appears to be the choice of the good ol’ boys, including Wilson. Mitchell primaried Wilson back in 2016, and got 31% of the vote. Here’s a particularly weird 2016 screed about Mitchell from Frank Knotts.

5. Filing(s). Brian Lewis, D Candidate For Kent County Sheriff.

That’s it for this week. What’d I miss, and whaddayathink?

“Kerri Harris Rolling Out Concerted Canvassing Effort?”

One quibble… the punctuation. Just a period, right?

Unlike some other candidates, looks like this campaign will take constructive criticism to heart. Another great sign.

Get out there, folks. Carper OUT!

  2. I meant my criticism as constructive last week. I hope that it was merely premature.

  3. RE Vanella says:

Funny story in which councilman Hollins is a minor character.

I was at a cool block party/market thing one evening this week. I know the lady who runs the neighborhood association. So I’m having a beer and speaking with her.

    …….

I say… This is a really nice event. You’re doing it weekly?

Her… Yes. I hope it catches on. Oh look, there New Castle Coumty Councilman Penrose Hollins.

Me… Yeah, I see him. We know him. ***point to my friend**

Her… Oh, he works for him?

    Me… No, he’s a newspaper reporter.

Her… Oh, and Hanifa Shabzz is here as well. She the president of city council.

Me… Yes, I know. I hope we can keep her out of prison.

    Her… Wha….

Me… Yeah, you know she approved that money to old Theo.

    Her… ahhh, gotta go….

    🙂

  4. RE Vanella says:

My online “persona” and my real life personality are pretty similar. I will say it to your face in case you were wondering.

  5. RE Vanella says:

It was fair even if it was premature. And now you have some action. Everybody wins.

  6. Joshua W says:

Hey Som, you can finally start breathing again. Bryan Townsend just filed.

  7. Liz Allen says:

You do know what they call Hanffa in the hood? Hannifa the Thiefa.Ahhh, gotta go.

  8. RE Vanella says:

  9. chris says:

Haniffa the Thiefa and ol’ Theo should both be prosecuted. The auditors report showed Theo violated the law.

  10. Liz Allen says:

Haniefa the Thiefa, and Theo Thiefo…the names going round Wilmington, yes why arent they being charged or investigated for their play to play politricks.

  11. Frank Knotts says:

Just to follow up on the current primary Mitchell finds himself in, nothing has changed. Bob Mitchell is still the worst kind of candidate. He is again being used as a bludgeon against Vanderwende, only this time he is being used by a new group of people. And some of these people actually opposed him last time. Politics truly does make odd bed fellows. And thanks for the link.
