What percentage of the military would join Trump’s side in a coup against the constitution?

Filed in National by on June 4, 2018

For all the hooey and bluster by #MAGA idiots like Rudy Guliani, if Trump decides to attempt a full blown coup against the constitution, the number of people joining him in that coup would be vanishingly small.

Furthermore, the number of people in the military (from the lowest recruit, to the Joint Chiefs) would be fewer than 100.

A constitutional crisis and test of military allegiance would only happen when the Senate votes to remove the president and he refuses to leave. Until then Trump can do whatever the f**k he wants and nobody can stop him.

My greater concern is when the 2020 election occurs; if he loses, will he accept the results? Will his followers?

Also, somewhat dated but interesting data here:

Looks like it might be more than a few hundred, but not a majority, and with fewer officers. BTW, the fact that we’re even having this conversation is horrifying.

It’s horrifying but not outside the realm of possibilities now. And puck is correct. Until the Congress moves on it or he loses the 2020 election Trump will act with impunity. If he pardons himself that will be really something.

This is why I urge everyone to gets their heads together and focus on priorities. Nobody here can do shit about Mueller or a criminal investigation. I see no benefit is spending much time thinking about it or waiting for the FBI to save us.

Candidates need to stand up with a real alternative agenda and the voters need to send a very strong rebuke. That’s the only way this works. An impeachment even with a conviction won’t cure anything unless the people come out and create a public mandate to remove him.

What amazes about the Foes of Tyranny is that they focus on federal government while ignoring the unchecked governmental power of local police. They actually love the local police, whose ability to kill with impunity shows them to be far more unaccountable to the public than federal forces have ever been.

    Very good point.

@REV “Candidates need to stand up with a real alternative agenda and the voters need to send a very strong rebuke. That’s the only way this works.”

No. It also works if we elect enough good people willing to stand against him, even if those good people don’t share your alternative agenda.

  7. RE Vanella says:

Without the “alternative agenda” any candidate is worthless. Standing against “him” isn’t good enough. It addresses no issues.

Your agenda boils down to willingness “to stand against him”. Fucking feeble. You’re scared. I’m not.

Results from yesterday’s primaries demonstrate again that all that matters this year is having a D after your name. People aren’t being picky about wanting these Republicans gone.

  9. RE Vanella says:

Some people are satisfied with a corporate owned state that will protect them fromwhatever it is that frightens them at night.

I’m not scared so I prefer to take power back from a government that operates solely at the behest of organized money.

This is as simple and explanation as I can offer.

  10. Alby says:

Regardless, the broad public is simply anti-R at the moment, which will allow the corporate Dems to claim that the public backed its agenda.

People on the left refuse to understand that they have been propagandized just as effectively as those on the right. If you don’t believe me, take a look at the front page of HuffPo on any average day and count how many stories are about “queerness” and all its manifestations in entertainment, fashion and politics. Marinate in that for a few years and you have today’s “liberals,” who are all about calling out privilege but, you’ll notice, haven’t done a thing for the broader society — all the social progress of the past 20 years has been accompanied by an ever-widening economic gap between the rich and the rest. That’s the value of winning the culture wars for you.

I’m talking here about what I see, not what I want.

  11. RE Vanella says:

It’s true. I see it too. Lots of time spent harshly enforcing social norms while a handful of elites and oligarchs took over the state. (Goldman Sachs partners who are cool with gay people… but are “Democrats!)

I understand what you’re arguing. It is happening. But, at this point, I can’t see continuing in this vain. Now that we can see quite clearly what has occurred I think now’s a good time to stop this nonsense. Get the political power back and fix what’s broken.

So the fact that it’s true doesn’t mean I have to or should give in to it, does it?
