Trump Math…. Steel + Racism = Michigan

Filed in National by on June 1, 2018

While Trump unzipped his pants and showed Canada (and his fans) his big dick on tariffs, his TV host/economic advisor Larry Kudlow disclosed that the US is getting close to a trade deal with China that will further lower barriers to the importation of Chinese materials such as slave labor steel, and child work camp soccer balls. Huzzah! Great deal making.

Anyway, I’ll amend my question from another thread that was roundly ignored.

If it is accurate to say that pretending to be on the side of the coal miner and steel worker, while leveraging white racism is the GOP’s response to working poor/ blue-collar economic anxiety and declining prospects, what is the Democratic Party’s response to working poor/ blue-collar economic anxiety and declining prospects?

I’m seriously asking – what is it?

And I think the answer from Dems might be – “We don’t need steel workers. We can retrain them to be computer programmers.”

The Democratic response is to focus on the rights of sexual deviants (not that there’s anything wrong with it) and ignore economic issues that may be at odds with their contributors.

  2. Arthur says:

prior to election the dems “we are here for you and you deserve a working wage and healthcare and strong schools for your kids”

    after elections – “who?”

Quick show of hands: Who thinks Dem “leadership” borders on non existent and is part of the problem? The Corporatists will not go on their own, witness Tom “I’m gonna die in office!” Carper and that lovable imp Chris Coons. Until money is not the almighty god of politics with the rich and Wall St. holding the reins this seems to be our fate. But a dramatically better job could be done, and I insist that the cleaning needs to start at the top. Sorry Nancy and Chuck fans.

Just run on how bad Trump is. That’s what I’m hearing.

For every steel worker the Dems lose they’ll surely pick up the affluent management class in the Philadelphia suburbs.

    Joking aside, it’s not complicated…

    ..ready…

*Medicare for ALL with women’s health covered 100% (abortion services without restriction)
    *College for ALL
    *$15 Minimum Wage
    *Automatic Voter Registration
    *End Private for-profit prisons
    *Wall Street / Oligarch Tax
*100% Renewable Energy in 20 years

There is no reason not to stand for these things. Equivocate or negotiate them away before an election for political reason? Go fuck yourself.

    The End

I disagree with two of your points.

    1) College is a colossal waste of capital and tuition money, because most people are there to get their passport stamped, not to “study” per se. We use college as job training (and to keep people out of the job market because we don’t have jobs for them all), so I would prefer job training for all without the overhead a college entails (I’m talking about the administration, not the profs).

Just as a for-instance, consider business schools. These were once stand-alone entities that were roughly community college with a business-orientated curriculum. Now they’re four-year programs offered at far greater expense by universities who can milk the students for far more in tuition.

So, IMO, job training for all, college for those for whom it’s appropriate — a number I would say is smaller than the current college enrollment figures.

    2) You will never get to 100% of anything. I’d settle for 90% renewable in 20 years, which would be difficult but theoretically achievable. Your goal is not.

    Community college free anyway

  8. Alby says:

    Only in Delaware.

    Ok lol

  10. RE Vanella says:

College could be 2-year Associate Degree / technical training in many cases. Should be the same as high school.

The political position should be 100% in 20 years. If that works out to 80% in 25, that’s fine.

Again these are political position standards. It’s not, “if you don’t do exactly this, you suck”. It’s, “if you don’t support these things I won’t support you with my time, my money or my vote”. The End.

Example. I don’t expect Bernie to deliver all this, but I know exactly where he stands. I know exactly how he’ll negotiate policy.

This Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is doing it right.

Watch the video. Not complicated. Didn’t mention Trump once.

  12. Tom Kline says:

All these comments sound like a bunch of commie’s. Get out of the D party and fire back up the Communist party…

  13. RE Vanella says:

That guy gets it. And, in time, he’ll get it.

  14. Lebay says:

I’m not sure if Tom Kline is trolling us or if he’s actually as stupid as he portrays himself. I wonder if he knows what Communism is and what “commie’s” (sic) support?

  15. RE Vanella says:

It’s the old.. “Every socialist, Marxist or leftist is Stalin or Mao”…trope.

I actually find it funny. It means Tom’s afraid of the Gulag. Which is a lovely thought.
