The GOP takes the blue pill. Will America?

Filed in National by on May 21, 2018

In the Matrix, Neo is offered an out.

After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill—the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Remember: all I’m offering is the truth.

The blue pill is an affirmative decision to remain in pleasant fantasy world. The red pill is an affirmative choice to live in a difficult and troubling reality.

By continuing with Trump beyond the point where he has “crossed over into applying overt presidential pressure on the Justice Department to do his bidding” the GOP is an affirmative decision to remain in an anti-constitutional fantasy world, in which America is ruled by a President, not governed by duly elected officials.

And if reality gives you heartburn, you take a purple pill.

I don’t like this analogy. Never have.

  4. Jason330 says:

The analogy underscores the fact that your outlook is the result of an actual choice.

Many people – Republicans in this case – have no self-awareness, and don’t think they have agency. …Unless something good happens to them. They’ll take credit for the good stuff.

One pill makes you larger and another one makes you small, and the one that Mother gives you, doesn’t do anything at all…

Placebo effect. It will do whatever you’re told it’s supposed to do.

“A placebo presented as a stimulant will have this effect on heart rhythm and blood pressure, but when administered as a depressant, the opposite effect.Perceived ergogenic aids can increase endurance, speed and weight-lifting ability, leading to the question of whether placebos should be allowed in sport competition.”

  7. bamboozer says:

Or we could just say the Republicans will ride the Trump train as long as they can and jump ship when the money is right. Money is their god, money is all the reality they ever need.

  8. RE Vanella says:

    prima facie

Unless it’s literally made of gold and shaped like a calf, they will never recognize themselves in the Bible.
