Why was Trump sucking up to Putin from day one?

“Trump’s primary interest in running for president was not originally to actually win either the nomination or the the presidency. He spent his campaign basically auditioning for Vladimir Putin in the hope that he’d be able to put his name on the tallest tower in Europe.”
