  1. BTW, due to popular demand, next week’s theme will be ‘dusty ol’ blues guys’. REV, Alby, Nathan, you broke it, you bought it. Send me your faves, and you’ll hear ’em right here. Got a few of my own, of course.

I’m making a request. Have we all seen “This is America” by Childish Gambino?

  3. RE Vanella says:

Yes! Donald Glover is a genius. This season of Atlanta is top shelf.

Also of note, the Japanese filmmaker who directs Atlanta episodes, Hiro Murai, also directed the video for This Is America I believe.

    Great collaborators…

Going to have to think on the Blues bit. Might go with something different. I always like the Muddy Waters electric album After the Rain.

    Bottom of the Sea?

Saffire has been around for decades, pretty sure I first heard them on WVUD, always loved their stuff.

Sticking with the Jameses, how about “Devil Got My Woman” (Skip) and “Dust My Broom” (Elmore). “Dust My Broom” is fairly well-known but it’s dynamite and maybe worth another listen. Both on Youtube, although pictures don’t move. Could also go for Lightnin’ Hopkins’ “Woke Up This Morning.” Also on Youtube, picture but not video.

  7. nathan arizona says:

Also maybe Hopkins’ “Get Off My Toe,” and not only for the title.

  8. waterpirate says:

They played the Reho jazz festival some years ago. At Sydney’s if I recall. By some years I am pretty sure it was the early 90’s.

    Pinetop Perkins Ida B.
