Song Of The Day: April 30, 2018

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on April 30, 2018

La Somnambula takes the reins this week.  I agree with every single one of her choices (I want to continue to eat well and, well, they really are good choices).

This song, of course, was inspired by perhaps the very first of America’s mass school shootings, memorialized here. Some of you youngsters may not even know that. But I bet you know the song:

  1. Mike Dinsmore says:

I remember the incident very well. The girl’s name is Brenda Spencer. She shot and killed two people, and wounded seven or eight others. She barricaded herself in her house, and when a reporter contacted her, she reportedly said “I don’t like Mondays.” She also said “I want to shoot more. I’m having too much fun.” She’s up for parole next year.

The song went to #1 in the U.K., but barely charted here due to lack of airplay.

English folksinger Dave Goulder does a dynamite live version of the song.

I just went looking on YouTube to see if I could find a video of Dave Goulder’s version. It’s not there, but there is a 47 minute British “shockumentary” about the case in a series called “Female Killers.” If you want to spend 47 minutes of your life (I watched the first two minutes) learning more about the case, check out “Brenda Ann Spencer” on YouTube.

Is there no end to what you can find on the internet? How did we survive before its invention?

Thanx for ruining that for me…. I had no idea it was more than just pop fluff. Now that I know, knowing is not good. Which way back to the matrix?

  4. La Somnambula says:

I chose this song because it was both timely (Monday) and timely (in support of young people protesting gun violence). Thanks for listening!
