Jeff Reinking, Travis Reinking’s Father, is an Accomplice to Murder
The Waffle House Shooter, Travis Reinking, “was arrested by the Secret Service for trespassing near the White House in July 2017.”
Reinking said he wanted to meet with US President Donald Trump and told a Secret Service officer at the northeast entrance that he was a “sovereign citizen” who had a “right to inspect the grounds,” according to a Metropolitan Police Department incident report dated July 7, 2017.
He was charged with unlawful entry, an arrest report states, but the charges were dismissed after he completed community service.
At the FBI’s request, Reinking’s Illinois firearms authorization was revoked, and four weapons — including the AR-15 style rifle used in the Sunday’s shooting — were seized
Authorities in Tazewell County, Illinois, later returned the seized weapons to Reinking’s father, who gave them back to his son, police said.

“(Reinking’s father) was allowed to do that after he assured deputies he would keep them secure and away from Travis,” Huston told the Tennessean.
A common gun nut refrain is “enforce the laws already on the books.” The full weight of the law should come down on this shithead, and his shithead murderous son.

100% agree. It’s past time to hold these terrorists’ suppliers accountable. If you give your kid back their guns after their seized by authorities then you are charged as an accessory (or aiding and abetting) to murder. If your kid murders people with your (obviously unsecured) gun, you are charged. If your kid kills themselves with your gun – you are charged.
All this talk about responsible gun owners is just that – talk. Start charging the parents. At least they’ll start locking up their guns.
Jeff Reinkeing should be charged, have his guns seized and be banned from purchasing guns. Forever. There is no excuse for what he did.
@Arthur: No, it’s not. The “authorities in Tazewell County” is a far cry from “Illinois,” as in the entire state.
The father promised to keep them away from the son and didn’t. How does anything the state did come close to that?
He should certainly be sued by the victim’s families.
We must be honest and admit we cannot interdict these men before they shoot. The most prudent solution is to remove this class of weapon until we can consistently interdict them. Delaware legislators are dithering about this in the fashion typical for them. What are they protecting? An upcoming vote in the future? The clock on school shootings is ticking now. It is only a matter of if, not whether, a shooting will happen in a Delaware school. The time to be proactive is now, not after dead Delaware students are carted out of a local high school on guerneys, parents and fellow students weeping, then angry, that our legislators did not act decisively to interdict these heinous shootings.
The father had a pretty good chance to interdict. That said, yes. All four people who were shot died. That is entirely due to the killing capacity of the weapon given to the shooter by his accomplice.

I don’t know about that. I’d rather everyone call their Delaware State Senator and ask them to support the assault weapons ban.
I am sure Jeff and Judith Reinking’s life, as they knew it, is over. They have no one to blame but Jeff for his careless consideration for his fellow man and woman. He agreed to lock up the weapons. He lied.
Yes, obviously mentally ill Travis did the horrific deed of murder and assault but for the generosity of his father’s irresponsible and possibly criminal behavior Travis wouldn’t have had his weapons available to kill.
There will be lawsuits, imagine the Reinking family will be sued at least four times, but the parents actions will not be diminished by money. No money will heal all the broken hearts. I do think it unusual there have been no family statements. An ‘I’m Sorry’ would be nice. Just sayin’ . . .

I agree with most of you, but feel you are letting the mother off the hook too easily. They both need to spend the rest of their lives are pariahs.
It is probably pretty hard having a mentally ill adult son. I think the least you could do for your son would be to keep him from having access to guns. Actually GIVING them access to assault weapons… yeah, that marks the Reinkings as the worst people in the world.
The irony is that Jeff Reinking might be convicted of felonies over this, while his son gets off as not guilty by reason of insanity. The boy is obviously crazy, nuts, loony tunes.
There’s a legal question here that I haven’t seen addressed: Travis Reinking’s weapons were seized, but then given to his father, right? Who owned the weapons when they were initially seized? If they were the property of the younger Mr Reinking, then the authorities gave the weapons to someone who did not own them. That would constitute illegal transfer of contraband. Such would seem to be legal only if the elder Mr Reinking owned them in the first place.
You can thank the NRA for muddying up the legal picture with regard to the gifting of the murder weapon.
Also, not being a lawyer, I got the terms wrong. Since he wasn’t present at the crime Jeff Reinking is an accessory to murder – not an accomplice.

Dana, none of the guns Travis owned were never actually seized by police. His ability to own them was revoked by the state when they took his firearms owner ID card (FOID). All IL residents are required to have a FOID to own a gun or ammo. Given his troubled past, the police recommended his card be revoked by the state so he relinquished ownership of the guns to his dad. His dad then “promised” the Tazewell county sheriff that Travis would never have access to them, which turned out to be a lie. Travis could own the guns legally in TN, the big question is did dad give them back in IL or take them to TN?
