Rob Arlett alleges that Tom Carper sent out a fundraising email attacking Rob Arlett

Filed in National by on April 20, 2018

WTF? Did any DL readers get a fundraising email from Carper attacking Rob Arlett? It doesn’t sound like Carper’s style to me and I’m having a hard time not thinking that Rob Arlett sent it to himself in order to have something to talk about on wingnut radio.

“The last thing we need in the U.S. Senate right now is a Senator who will be a rubber stamp on President Trump’s backward agenda. We don’t need yet another Trump ally in Congress who will undercut workers’ rights to line the pockets of corporations and their shareholders.”

  1. I, uh, think I was excised from Carper’s e-mail list long ago.

  2. Trueblue says:

    Yup I got it

  3. trueblue says:

Tom’s opponent is clearly cut from the same cloth as President Trump. Like the President, Tom’s opponent claims to support workers. But also like the President, he supports policies that hurt them.

Last year, Tom’s opponent tried (and failed) to undercut Sussex County workers’ ability to bargain for better wages.

The last thing we need in the U.S. Senate right now is a Senator who will be a rubber stamp on President Trump’s backward agenda. We don’t need yet another Trump ally in Congress who will undercut workers’ rights to line the pockets of corporations and their shareholders.

We need to do everything we can to set Tom up to win in November.

Rush in $5 or $10 and help us reach our Rapid Response goal of $5,000.

    Thank you,

    Team Carper

PAID FOR BY CARPER FOR SENATE

Well, Carper doesn’t need the money so I think two things are at work.

    1) Carper is worried about Kerri Harris, so he is trying to get Dems to look beyond the primary, and

    2) He is monkeying with the GOP primary – fluffing Arlett (who would be a pushover) and hurting Truono, who would be tougher.

    Developer whore shyster

  6. Brock Landers says:

This is the thanks that Carper gets for appointing Arlett’s son to the Naval Academy.

I think it’s part of Carper’s play for low-information Democrats. Not that many of those show up for the primary, but here’s my take:

Carper’s fundraising emails don’t mention the primary but they do portray Carper as being under attack by Trump-loving opponents. Carper is trying to set himself up as the anti-Trump candidate. Now, a lot of people don’t know the name Kerri Harris. So in the primary voting booth, low-info voters will assume a vote for Carper is a vote against Trump.

To flip that narrative, I’d like to see Harris adopt the tagline “Kerri Harris – Democrat for Senate.” If that gets repeated enough, primary voters will think they need to vote for Harris to replace a Republican with a Democrat.

If nothing else, that strategy will force Carper to acknowledge he is a Democrat. I can’t imagine how uncomfortable that will make him. You can’t find Democrat on his campaign literature.

  8. Alby says:

@mouse: Developer? No. Developers have money. He’s just a real estate whore, like Collins.

Drove through Centerville yesterday, saw Truono signs. So this looks like an upstate vs. downstate GOP primary, which means Arlett, not Truono, should be the favorite.

  9. Jason330 says:

You are right. Arlett is the favorite.

He sells real estate or did and panders to developers

I guess l need to send her more money so her campaign can make it unforgettable.

  13. mouse says:

I don’t get why there are so many people who flock to these obvious sleaze bags

  14. mouse says:

There must be some lowly people out there totally lacking any kind of moral or intellectual development looking for someone to validate their bigotry

  15. Paul says:

“Well, Carper doesn’t need the money so I think two things are at work.” The appeal is presumably to the same donors that have contributed to Harris. Small donors. Carper is trying to deflect Harris’ funding into his own coffers. Cunning. Changing his votes would work better.
