April 19 Open Thread: Democrats Rolling in the Green

Filed in National, Open Thread by on April 19, 2018

I’m of the firm belief that money is not the sole, or even the most important, factor in winning elections. Still, it’s telling that Democrats are thumping Republicans in fund-raising for the midterms. Politico found that 43 Democrats have out-raised their incumbent
Republicans.

Remember when some people thought Trump’s constant flip-flopping meant he was playing some kind of eleventy-dimensional chess? No, he was just doing what people with adult ADHD often do — winging it minute by minute because he can’t concentrate on a subject long enough to do any strategic thinking about it. The latest example: Trump said that’s how he’ll handle his maybe-not-fictional meeting with Kim Jong Un. I imagine that will work out about as well as the Trump Taj Mahal.

Cue the Jethro Tull. The woman who’s now governor of Alabama, Kay Ivey, is running for re-election on the issue of — you guessed it —Confederate statuary. Losers worshiping losers.

Think all the Clintonistas have gotten over it, considering that their avatar remains just as unpopular as the turd she lost to? Think again, and have a look at this savage attack on James Comey by one of the sore losers at Daily Kos. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure Comey is a sanctimonious prick. But then, so is Hillary Clinton, and that goes double for those who are still carrying her water.

Ted Cruz is STILL courting Trump delegates in anticipation of Trump’s inevitable flame out.

    Keep hope alive Ted.

Chickenshit tough-talker Alex Jones suddenly believes the Sandy Hook massacre actually happened. All it took was a couple of parents suing him for libel:

  3. And…here comes Rudy:

You will recall that Trump dumped the lead US prosecutor for the southern NY district and replaced him with…a Giuliani protege.

They really are engaged in a criminal conspiracy to escape justice. They might succeed.

Also, the New York FBI office was a hotbed of Hillary hatred, which is one reason Comey held his fateful news conference — he was afraid they would leak it to the right-wing press and accuse the FBI of a cover-up. Which they almost certainly would have.

This is why I have no patience with assholes like the one I linked to from Kos. As I said, I’m sure Comey is an insufferable prick. So what? He did the best he could with the information he had in the situation he found himself. I don’t think Hillary Clinton can say the same.

Rep. Short: Government needs to help religious groups battling addiction
    https://sussexpost.com/news/rep-short-government-needs-to-help-religious-groups-battling-addiction/

“Rep. Short noted that Seaford has been especially hard hit by addiction and illicit drug use, being labeled in one national news report as “Crack Alley.” Still, he says progress has been made, in part because of the active intervention of religious organizations. He said, “government needs to get off its butt” and stop blocking aid to successful programs battling addiction just because they are affiliated with religious groups. “Dollars are dollars, and money is money, and if it is going to resources [helping the community], it doesn’t matter to me whether you are a Catholic, like myself, Jewish, a Lutheran, or whatever.”

….Highlighting the prevalent nature of the addiction problem, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) last month released data from emergency departments showing substantial increases in opioid overdose numbers nationwide. The CDC’s Vital Signs report noted that visits for suspected opioid overdoses increased 30 percent from July 2016 to September 2017.

Of 16 states participating in enhanced data surveillance, Delaware reported the second-highest percent increase for suspected opioid overdose emergency visits during the period studied (105 percent). The

First State reported 2,075 suspected overdose-related emergency visits: 1,529 in New Castle County; 355 in Sussex County; and 191 in Kent County.”

    @ES “And…here comes Rudy:
    …They might succeed.”

But we all know that Rudy is quite incompetent. …worst Presidential candidate of 2008. From so far ahead in the polls, his collapse was spectacular. Maybe he could do the something similar for Trump??
