March 26 Open Thread: Big Bust Might Lead to Big Bust

Filed in National, Open Thread by on March 26, 2018

The March for Our Lives turnout exceeded my expectations, and produced hours of riveting testimonials from children about the effects shooting have on their lives. That’s unbeatable TV, and the right knows it, which is why their media gasped for the proper response. As you would expect, they ranged from “inappropriate” to “wildly inappropriate.”

By this morning, though, Stormy Daniels had America’s tongues wagging…uh, had everyone talking about her “60 Minutes” interview, which Josh Marshall breaks down here. I confess I did not watch, as I didn’t want to spoil the memory of her performance in “Big Busted Goddesses of Las Vegas.”

Word going into the weekend was that Trump had decided to publicly fight the Daniels/McDougal allegations, perhaps fueled by the departure of yet another Trump lawyer. Don McGahn, like John Dowd, is ankling the case. He must have realized that lawyers who represent themselves aren’t the only ones with a fool for a client.

Trump’s wag-the-dog response was to issue another ban on transgender troops, apparently concocted by evangelical cyborg Mike Pence and his merry band of sexually repressed clergy/advisers. Another Trump cabinet genius, Steve Mnuchin, showed he doesn’t understand the concept of the line-item veto being unconstitutional. I’m starting to think his main qualification for his position is that Trump wants to sleep with his wife.

With primary dates dotting the spring calendar, there’s lots being written about congressional races. In nearby Pennsylvania, Republican Rep. Ryan Costello, whose new district lines looked ominous, pulled a Brave Sir Robin: Swiftly taking to his feet, he beat a very brave retreat, announcing he won’t seek re-election. Trump’s errand boy Devin Nunes is running, but he’s going to face opposition on a level he never has before.

And, just for Jason, the Delaware State News conducted a long interview with former Gov. Mike Castle, who called for…yeah, you guessed it. More bipartisanship!

Fox presents an “ultra-conservative” point of view, while MSNBC provides an “ultra-liberal” perspective, he said. Meanwhile, newspapers such as The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal also have their own biases, although less so than the major TV networks, Mr. Castle opined.

Yep. MSNBC is just like Fox News. Just fucking like it. A mirror goddam image. Go back to sleep, idiot.

    I knew you’d enjoy it.

  3. Dave says:

“Trump wants to sleep with his wife.”

Only in so far as Mnuchin’s wife resembles Ivanka.

  4. mouse says:

Yeah, I’m already liberal biased, I don’t need it fed back to me every minute. MSNBC has some good shows though. Not much real analysis of anything out there

  5. puck says:

I don’t get any cable news. But reality has a liberal bias.

  6. Google “Get CNN out of airports” and see what pops up.

FOX etc. is claiming CNN is now too lefty to be publicly broadcast in the nation’s airports.

    There’s even a petition.

  7. Jason330 says:

“Yeah, I’m already liberal biased, I don’t need it fed back to me every minute. MSNBC has some good shows though.”

For the love of God…Do not buy into the fantasy that a cable channel that gives Joe Scarborough, Hugh Hewitt, and Greta Van Sustern air time is liberal.

  8. Alby says:

I thought the takeaway was that he sounds like Mike Castle, Time Traveler from Twenty Years Ago.

  9. Alby says:

Esquire’s Charles Pierce marched in Washington and talked to some interesting people along the route: Survivors of other gun massacres. And no politicians.

  10. spktruth says:

While mentioning cable and other news, your leaving Fake News here in Delaware. WDEL is the worst its ever been. You would think we are in Mississippi not Delaware.

  11. nathan arizona says:

spktruth: So what, in your opinion, is news that is not “fake.” Is it news that tells you only what you already know or what you want to believe? That works for the Trump folks. Please don’t take this as praise for Susan Monday. But that’s a talk show, not a news show.

    • spktruth says:

Fox is pure propaganda. Breitbart, Rush, Daily Caller, etc..all fake news. i listen to them all, just to hear what bs they are putting out on any given issue.

  12. spktruth says:

Re: Wdel: how bout Ed Tills or Sussman…two alt right lunatics.

  13. nathan arizona says:

I have no idea who they are, but if you don’t like them don’t listen.
You still haven’t answered my question: How do you define news that isn’t “fake” if you’re not defining it as news you know you’ll agree with.

  14. jason330 says:

Fox News strays into fake news when they report on some dubious right wing crank’s claims by making it a “people are saying” story designed to promote some wingnut nonsense.

But the true fake news is literally made up by Russian troll farms, designed to push buttons and be readily shareable.

  15. spktruth says:

First: I don’t take anything I hear or see as fact unless its backed up by other sources. We know now that the Russians and Cambridge delivered fake news to a min. 50,000,000 targeted people based on their political leanings. I know I was hit by some of those trolls over Hilary (who I didn’t support) which appeared on Sanders website. It was easy to pick them out because you couldn’t find another source for the information unless it appeared on Fox or Breitbart that day or the next. If you listen to WDEL you would know that Tills and Sussman are alt right lunatics! Heard they have these cats on just in Sussex from 12:0 to 6:00. I do know loudell nor Jenson is on anymore in Sussex. All fake news feeding lower slower.

  16. RE Vanella says:

I guess it’s just Potter Stewart and me. Know it when we see it.

    That’s the key.

  17. Paul says:

Pete was at the march in Rehoboth on Saturday. He led the march from the park to the bandstand. He did not speak, as that particular event was held for the kids to speak. Does he already know the bill banning assault weapons will stall in committee?
