Big Joe Turner is not to be confused with Regular-size Joe Turner, a major stride piano player. Though not “big,” he does carry a big cigar. This Joe Turner tends to get ignored because the music world is apparently not large enough for two Joe Turners, especially when one of them is as talented as the Big one. Regular-size Joe Turner played in the vein of Fats Waller and Art Tatum. Stride piano was not a big influence on rock, buy it did lead to boogie-woogie. And you know how rockers like to boogie.

When will we see Li’l Joe Turner?

This is as close as I could get. At least Little Joe is singing with the great Flaco Jimenez. Joe does look pretty li’l, or Flaco is very tall.
