Oxymoron of the Day: Intelligent Gun Owner

Filed in National by on March 1, 2018

“In my opinion, you hang a sign out front that says this is a ‘gun-free zone’ and what do you get? An open invitation.” — “Dr.” Donald Hattier, Indian River School Board member

Yesterday I drove someone to the emergency room, and a sign out front caught my eye. Guess what? The ER is a gun-free zone! There it was, an open invitation to any and all nuts with a gun, or an arsenal, looking for someplace to shoot up. Heck, many of the people there can’t even walk, let alone run away! Of course, there was an armed guard there, too, but hell, there are armed guards at high schools and that doesn’t stop anyone, does it?

So where are all the mass shootings at hospitals? Could it be that disaffected teens hold no grudges against their local hospitals, but they do hold grudges about the one institution, school, that dominates a person’s life until age 18?

I calmed down when I realized that, as “Doctor” Hattier is actually a chiropractor, he has no idea what goes on at a hospital.

A new inversion of the famed “guns make you safe” argument, perhaps Hattier would prefer “We’re armed to the teeth and ready to pull the trigger at a moments notice!”.

Are they handing out prizes for Most Principled Something these days? Didn’t think so.

Pro tip: If you are going to use some reference to “stupid” in your screen name, you might want to make sure you use punctuation marks correctly.
