Michael Hurd Needs Serious Help

Filed in National by on March 1, 2018

How this guy, Michael Hurd, makes a living as a therapist is truly a mystery to me. If you’ve ever read any of his periodic unhinged screeds in the pages of the DSN, you’ve been a witness to the outworking of some childhood trauma that must have included being abused by his Priest, the post man, public schools, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Probably simultaneously.

Where else could all of his rage, his white hot anti-government hatred spring from?

Is President Trump right that teachers in public schools should be armed? Absolutely. Is the idea crazy? No. The situation in government-run public schools is crazy. And we should be asking why. In more reasonable times, the answer would be obvious. Public schools are government-run behemoths…

When you compel young adults to do the government’s bidding — whether it’s to learn algebra, or pay homage to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama — especially in an otherwise largely free society such as ours, it’s a recipe for disaster. It’s a wonder we don’t have more school shootings than we do. It only takes a tiny minority of the most resentful and offended students to vent their rage in this way. If they had never been part of the educational system they so resent in the first place, schools would not be at risk. Sure, they’d likely be criminals out in society, but at least schools would be safe. That’s why you’re not finding these tragedies at private schools — only at government-run schools.

The establishment media and politicians who mock President Trump’s proposal are truly insane. Only they don’t know it. They live in an insular world protected from the consequences of their own assumptions and claimed values.

I was thinking about writing something about this myself. It’s insane on its face — he’s basically justifying school shootings. He should lose his license over this, but I don’t know if he has one.

That last paragraph you quoted is the most frightening case of projection I’ve ever seen.

The State News certainly should be taken to task for giving this dangerous nutcase a regular platform.

  2. jason330 says:

So much blind rage. Projection is right. It is as if he is planning a mass school shooting in his mind as he furiously bashes his computer keys.

Somebody did some fucked up shit to that guy.

  3. Alby says:

What worries me is that his ID line at the bottom says he’s a licensed social worker. Whaaaat???? Not in this state I hope.

  4. Dave says:

He writes occasional letters to the editor in the Cape Gazette. Most of the letters are in a similar vein – government and liberals bad. conservatives and no government good. I have found him to be a bit whacky. If I wanted therapy (I don’t. I like the way I am), he would not be my choice.

My feelings can be summed with ‘I’m ok. He’s nuts’

  5. jason330 says:

It is truly odd to see a “mental health professional” so eager to broadcast his obvious lack of mental health.

  6. The Truth Hurts says:

The State news is the Fox News Of delaware.

    Unabashed by their R slant.

  7. Alby says:

He’s in cahoots with Rob Arlett, the resort real estate agent and dipshit (but I repeat myself) who thinks the state wants to transgender your kids.

Nobody can fuck you up like the Catholics, man.

  8. Gerry W says:

I don’t have any issue whatsoever with the DSN allowing Hurd on their OPED page, that’s an open forum and freedom of Speech. My issue is whether Hurd is speaking as a Private Citizen or a mental Health “Professional”. Throwing out your credentials, as Hurd did, takes you out of the Private Citizen ring and onto – I know because I do this for a living pedestal. Bizarre then that a Mental Health Professional would call others “insane” especially as a figure of speech. I have strong feelings towards all who seek Glory through Politics, but I wouldn’t taint those who disagree with me as Insane. There seems to be a flight from reason or responsibility that takes hold at the Beach, perhaps that explains how some one would actually pay this man.

  9. Alby says:

@Gerry: That’s my issue with DSN publishing him — he’s using it as a platform for advertising his services. Of course, he undermines his credentials with every column, but still.

  10. Dave says:

He probably only sees RWNJs or their children. So he at least adheres to that old adage “first do no harm” because they are already nuts. He won’t make them better, but he more than likely can’t make them worse.

  11. Alby says:

But Dave… think of those children! Won’t somebody think of the children?

  12. Alby says:

I failed to mention the most obvious, ozone-layer-sized hole in Mr. Hurd’s argument: If schools are indoctrination factories, aren’t teachers tools of the state? Why does he then want to arm them?

  13. jason330 says:

Good point. Think of how much more effective the forced paying homage to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama would be.

  14. Alby says:

@jason: Upon further reflection, I realize you are right: This is a cry for help.

  15. AQC says:

I know another social worker up here who thinks this way and it’s downright scary to me. Therapists have more power to indoctrinate children they serve than teachers do.

  16. Bill B says:

He hates Obama, hates Hillary, hates transgender people, loves Trump, and, according to a transgender former student of mine, he’s gay. You can’t say “I hate myself” any more loudly than that. He may claim to be a therapist, but the person who needs the therapist is the person he sees when he looks in the mirror.

  17. “The State news is the Fox News Of delaware. Unabashed by their R slant.”

Horse shit. DSN is the first and sometimes only news outlet to publish Kowalko etc.

  18. meatball says:

This guy is with the Rehoboth Foodie on WXDE and the Cape Gazzette. Weirdos all the way around.

  19. RSE says:

Damn, cyberbully much? The guy isn’t even a public figure.

  20. Jason330 says:

Please. Anyone who has his unhinged screeds published invites inquiries into his motivations. Having read a few of his deranged public ramblings it has become clear to me that he is working through some pretty tough unresolved shit. And he isn’t working through it in a very healthy way. But hey, I’m no licensed therapist. He could simply be a very very angry asshole. I guess that happens too.

  21. Alby says:

@RSE: There’s nothing more bogus than a conservative asshole trying to throw liberal memes in people’s faces.

This asswipe is the bully. We’re standing up to him.

You can go back to your favorite porn provider now.

  22. RSE says:

    Really?

  23. Alby says:

    Yes, really.

  24. Dave says:

He is a public figure. He has radio show and is a columnist in a couple local beach papers. He is also a comedian. Well, he doesn’t think he is, but I do.

  25. jason330 says:

    lol. you got me.
