Sure Corporations Are People — Cold, Heartless, Bastard People
A waitress at an Outback Steakhouse in Florida spends a good part of her shift putting together a 75-meal takeout order for a megachurch. The guy who picks it up pays the $735 but leaves no tip. The waitress is steamed and posts about it on Facebook (without mentioning where she worked). It gets back to the church, which calls the restaurant to say they were sorry and to make it right with the waitress. When she gets to work, she’s fired. Why? Because it’s corporate policy to fire anyone who says anything about a customer on social media.
Notice that both the folks at the church and the waitress just want what’s right. It’s the corporation and its rules that fucked things up for everybody. I wouldn’t eat at an Outback anyway, but this is what millions of unadventurous people eating at chain restaurants has wrought.
You know why corporations aren’t people? Because they aren’t alive. In fact, the evidence is that they suck the life out of everything they touch. Just look at what they’ve done to Delaware.
People should cut out 80- 90 percent of social media. If this was handled by human beings –as human beings, the situation could have been properly rectified with someone losing their job.
Social media didn’t make the corporate policy.
Mom has been in a nursing homes for over 6 years, it’s hard not to notice the corporate influence. The smaller homes are being bought out by a corporations, at some point corporations will own them all. Fees constantly rise, employees are mostly immigrants working for minimum wage. They also know my wife has dementia and constantly try to get me to put her in a home, it’s positively ghoulish and all about the money. The last time the Republicans attacked Medicaid (some) people woke up to the fact that Medicaid pays for over 60% of the residents, their funds exhausted. If you think these corporations will not throw the elderly out in the street you don’t know how corporations act. Heartless, cruel and downright evil is what the corporations are all about, especially the people at the top.

Sometimes springing for a better steak doesn’t get you a better steak just a better cook. Consider that lone star steakhouse and Sullivan’s steak house are owned by the same company and each get the same cuts of meat.
With beef, grade is everything. That’s why they have to tenderize it at low-end chains, so that’s what you taste.
With chains, growth is everything, and quality increasingly matters. That’s why Lone Star, for one, is shrinking.
Yes, the restaurant chain is abominable for firing this woman. But someone please tell me how the church only learned about tipping AFTER they were embarrassed on social media? And it never occurred to them that contacting the restaraunt hierarchy MIGHT have repercussions for the waitress? You believe that if you want to. I don’t. That possibility would occur to me in an Instant because I know how businesses are. I’m confident I’m not by far the only one who gets that.
A waitress speculating that “I’m pretty sure its them” doesn’t pass the smell test. The waitress who made the accusation should be fired and the manager should be terminated as well. Even if the women did commit the theft, the restaurant nor the police presented evidence to prove that they did.
Uh…there’s nothing about theft in the story. Nobody was accused of a crime. You can go back to your Studies in Authoritarianism now.
