“Delaware – We are merely the pimps!”

Filed in National by on February 11, 2018

We are merely the pimps! is the new state motto of Delaware, replacing the old official motto “Liberty and independence” and the old unofficial motto “Home of tax free shopping” as well as the other unofficial mottos “The First State”, “Small Wonder” and “Delawhere?”

We are merely the Pimps! Should ring in everyone’s ears, and true delawareans should swell with pride after reading this story about how Delaware’s laws facilitate child sex trafficking.

Once upon a time, I was touting “Small Wonder” as the brand name for a line of condoms. State could generate some much needed revenue marketing them on backpage.com … With a joint resolution from the GA, it could become the official condom of the first state … with approval from the Small Business Lapdog Committee, of course.

I’m as disappointed as you all are in the News Journal. The paper of record is an embarrassment in many ways. The value of an ephemeral click is not equal to the value of a story on the political or cultural scene. I’m also not naïve. I think most of the reporters are sincere. I know some of these people personally. They seem earnest journalists. The failures are institutional.

    That said consider this.

About a week ago I wrote this:

    https://www.delawareonline.com/story/opinion/contributors/2018/02/01/who-benefits-delawares-corporate-friendliness-delaware-voice/1087661001/

In which I argued among other things this:

“The state allows all manner of legal corporate theft by providing every shield, loophole and secret cache imaginable. We’re supposed to turn a blind eye to it because it creates a few hundred professional jobs and we take a small vigorish off the top as any bookie or pimp would do.”

Sunday’s front page featured this story:

    https://www.delawareonline.com/story/news/2018/02/09/worlds-top-online-brothel-delaware-company-good-standing/308732002/

In which Delaware Secretary of State Jeff Bullock says this of the online human trafficking website Backpage dot com’s use of multiple Delaware based LLCs:

“ ‘We don’t have the legal authority’ to dissolve the company, Bullock said this week. ‘I wish we did.’ “

So… who is responsible for is? Are we all good with this?

    1) “The failures are institutional.”

    Oh, believe us, we know.

    2) Perhaps if the police stopped pretending to be 13-year-olds on the computer and went after this traffic instead we’d put a dent in it. But, y’know, it’s easier to catch stupid johns than smart pimps.

    3) I think “We Da Pimps” is punchier.

“We Da Pimps!” I like it. Or… “Da Pimp State!”

Close 2nd and a favorite in the halls of power: “If we don’t facilitate child sex trafficking, some other state is just going to do it.”

  5. RE Vanella says:

Also remember legal taxable marijuana is bad and scary. Carney is firmly anti-reefer. Just don’t ask him why. He has no idea.

  6. bamboozer says:

“Da Pimps”? Mo’ like Da Hoes it would seem as we’ll do anybody’s business if the money is right. And legalize weed, something political that actually does “pay for itself with increased revenue”. See? It could happen.
