Nothing from the corrupt White House resident should surprise us.

He’s capable of it, I have no doubt, and a substantial amount of the American people are dumb enough to fall for it as well.( I can just see the flag magnets now). Almost said I would hope the Republicans would stop him but they’ve proved that they are just as bad or worse. It would certainly signal America’s democracy is in great danger with the Fascists, Plutocrats and the rest within distance of toppling the rule of law.

Something like this was (and is) my greatest fear as an outcome of the election. Unfortunately, most people still think it’s a complex process for the President to use nuclear weapons. It takes only 3 to 5 minutes on his sole authority. It simply requires confirmation by SecDef, who serves at the will of the President and can be immediately replaced if refuses to confirm the order. For a nuclear deterrent to be effective it has to be this simple.

The entire world depended on the American people to elect someone with a modicum of intelligence and wisdom. We failed ourselves and the world. My everlasting disdain is for any and all who facilitated his election, whether by omission or commission.

Whatever they may be thinking, it beggars belief that anyone, even among Trump appointees, could possibly be stupid enough to say something like that out loud.
That passage aside, the editorial is spot on in terms of its assessment of the situation. Sabre rattling is one thing with a recalcitrant foe, something else entirely when a small gesture toward reconciliation is underway.

It seems we now need to institute some kind and of recall in presidential elections is now something we need to institute so the grown ups remain in charge.
