The year in blogging – March & April 2017

Senator Nicole Poore and disgraced ex-Senator Tony DeLuca joined together in March to oppose consideration of Acting Labor Secretary Patrice Gilliam-Johnson to continue in that position under Gov. Carney:  Nicole and Tony Sittin’ In a Tree, P-I-S-S-I-N-G…. First class work there Nicole. If it were not for petty, self-serving Democrats we may have no Democrats […]

Open Thread Dec. 24: Whiter Christmas

The worst part of the Democratic Party’s embrace of neoliberal elitism is that it has led to a party run by hack middle-management types without a creative bone in their heads. Consider their chicken-livered response to the GOP’s need for Democratic votes to keep the government open over the holidays. After weeks of talk about […]

The year in blogging – Jan & Feb 2017

Even after a crazy December that saw the blog fracture along Clinton/Sanders primary lines, and in spite of still being in shock over Trump’s election, the year still started on an optimistic note, as we considered John Carney’s possible budget moves.    Who could have predicted that his big move was going to be giving away […]

Open Thread Dec. 23: Every Day Is Festivus

Filed in National, Open Thread by on December 23, 2017 8 Comments

Today is Festivus, the made-up holiday popularized by “Seinfeld” back in the ’90s, the centerpiece of which is the Airing of the Grievances. Compiling a full list would take all day, so why bother when a scroll through the archives would suffice? Here at Delaware Liberal, every day is Festivus, and airing our grievances is […]

Song Of The Day: Dec. 23, 2017

Idolatry is idolatry, whether it’s Jesus or–Elvis. Jesus merely has a cameo in this fascinating Warren Zevon song, a song I’m still trying to wrap my head around:

Have a great Holiday break…In January we start rocking and rolling

I don’t think a Republican should win any office, anywhere north of Milford next November. If you look at last year’s Insurance Commissioner results, for example, Democrats won or were within 150 votes everywhere decent people live in the state.

That’s a solid base to build on. In 2018, if Democratic challengers can’t harness anti-Trump, anti-GOP energy next year, we all deserve the miserable lots I life that the GOP is working towards.

Open Thread Dec. 22: Only Losers Pay Taxes, and You’re a Loser

Filed in National, Open Thread by on December 22, 2017 14 Comments

Lots of analysis out there today, both financial and political, of the Republican tax heist. The political angle is covered nicely by Josh Marshall in his response to concern that the bill will help the GOP going into the midterms. If you prefer a more vitriolic take, the Daily Beast is your best bet. A […]

WDEL: KHN Lied On Her Ethics Statement

Filed in Delaware, Featured by on December 22, 2017 40 Comments

Read Joe Irazarry’s story here. She defines the term ‘grifter’.  I’m beginning to think she doesn’t even get to complete her term b/c of legal issues. Didn’t mention a loan on her required ethics form.  Said there  ‘was confusion on whether the money was a gift or a loan’. Turns out that was a demonstrable […]

Open Thread Dec. 21: Brighter Days Ahead

Filed in National, Open Thread by on December 21, 2017 3 Comments

The winter solstice occurs at 11:28 this morning, so by definition, brighter days are ahead — but not today, according to the astrologers, who are just as qualified as most of Trump’s cabinet secretaries. That Virginia recount that the Democrat won by one vote? Not any more. The GOP challenged, and the court upheld, one […]

Of all the performers I’ve brought to the Arden Gild Hall, nobody made a greater impression on me than the Holmes Brothers.  We loved them and they loved Arden and the people who came out to see ’em.  Had ’em there four times.  They could do ‘Saturday night and Sunday morning’ like nobody’s business.  Jesus […]

All I want for Christmas is a Democratic Party that doesn’t suck

Filed in National by on December 20, 2017 0 Comments

Duncan Black is right. The right doesn’t need to suppress votes. The message impaired Democratic Party does great job suppressing it every election.

Gotta Give People Something To Vote For
The issue has never been annoying bernie bros who piss you off on the internet. It’s the vast number of people who don’t bother voting because why should they. Don’t say “voter suppression” because while that matters, lots of people don’t even try to vote. Their vote doesn’t have to be suppressed. And arguing that team ‘D’ would win if only things were fair doesn’t make team ‘D’ actually win. There are no refs calling penalties. It doesn’t work like that.

“Trump sucks” might win 2018, but if Dems don’t deliver than “Dems suck” will win in 2020.

Speaking as a Bernie Bro… it was never Bernie, the man, I was into. It was the fact he was actually saying something worth voting for. It doesn’t seem that complicated to me… but you still get bewildered looks when you try to explain it to Professional Democrats.
