Cognitive dissonance is mitigated by confirmation bias. They simply choose not to accept anything that conflicts their beliefs which rapidly dissipates any dissonance. The human mind is a wonderful thing! I have family members like that. I am constantly amazed at what they accept as fact. I blame the educational system that failed to impart any critical thinking skills to students.
Well what do you expect? They cant read!
