It’s Official, Franken Resigns

Filed in National by on December 7, 2017

He’s stepping down in the coming months, according to his speech. He also noted that some of the allegations are “not true,” and others have been described in ways he doesn’t remember the incidents. But remember, we must believe the women, because no woman has ever lied for political or financial gain. Ever.

Well done, Social Justice Warriors. You have now shown the direction that Democratic Party purity-testing shall take from here on out. The Tea Party acted as the purification police for the Republicans; apparently the feminists will perform the same function for the Democrats.

We’ll never get anywhere with these purity tests. A wise person once told me that the most sagacious course of action is the pragmatic approach. Oh well.

Wait, what are we talking about again?

  2. mediawatch says:

Franken should have used the resignation speech he had in his other pocket — the one that said he was resigning from the Democratic party because he would be more readily accepted by the Republicans.

  3. Dana says:

This is the best possible result for the GOP. Since Senator Franken is remaining in the Senate for a few more weeks, the GOP can file an expulsion resolution against both Mr Franken and Roy Moore. The Governor of Alabama then gets to appoint another Republican to fill the seat, saving the seat for the GOP, rather than having Democrat Doug Jones fill it.

As for the seat Mr Franken holds, the Governor of Minnesota is a Democrat, and he’ll appoint another Democrat to fill it. Both states will wind up with special elections, and thus both will (almost surely) remain in the control of the current parties.

  4. Alby says:

@Dana: That assumes they will want to expel Moore.

@MW: That would be an immediate reentry to the world of comedy.

  5. bamboozer says:

Attention! This is the start, not the end. Having toppled Franken the Republicans will be back for more and probably already have a small army of “victims” ready to go with more coming every day. Some will be fakes, some will have convenient memories and all will be covered by a compliant corporate media. Take back the house? Good luck on that, we’ve stabbed ourselves in the back yet again.

  6. Ben says:

I know one thing, Social Security is about to get gutted and everyone will be focused on former Senator Smalley.

  7. jason330 says:

The fucking Senate isn’t going to to fucking expel Roy fucking Moore. McConnell already said that he leaves it in the hands of the Alabama voters.

    Jesus Christ, people.

  8. Ben says:

Of course they arent. This is America now.
It’s time liberals change their mind about gun ownership.

  9. Arthur says:

The title should be ‘cutting off your nose to spite your face’

  10. Rusty Dils says:

For once, i agree completely with Jason, but you should’nt sugar coat it like that Jason, just tell em straight!
