Call Roy Moore a Perv, Get a Spittle Shower

Filed in National by on November 10, 2017

The list of men called out for bad sexual behavior, from creeping on underaged girls to rape, keeps growing. Comedian Louis C.K., who was trailed for years by rumors of his brand of no-touch (other than himself) sexual assault, is having all his HBO content erased from On Demand. Kevin Spacey’s part in an upcoming movie was 86’ed and reshot with Christopher Plummer. This is not going away, it’s growing.

Last week a conservative commenter said Hollywood would brush this under the rug, as they did with Roman Polanski. (For those unfamiliar with conservative “thought,” the existence of a single bad-behaving liberal negates all bad behavior by all conservatives, everywhere, for all time.) That commenter hasn’t been back since; conservatives hate admitting they were wrong. Nor will they want to acknowledge the double standard they have applied to distinguish between Harvey Weinstein and Republican politicians like Roy Moore and Donald Trump.

Harvey Weinstein hasn’t been tried on any charges yet, but they’ve jumped on him with both feet. Donald Trump, though, accused by 16 women of sexual assault? Nothing proven, and anyway, lies, all lies.

Now it’s Roy Moore’s turn. Four women were approached by reporters — they did not come forward, they were found — and all four, none of whom knew each other, say that as a 30-something, Moore made sexual overtures toward them. The most serious allegation came from a woman who was 14 at the time and says Moore plied her with liquor, stripped her to her underwear and fondled her. While saying it never happened, Moore also pointed out she didn’t say there was any intercourse, a rather strange defense if you think about it.

I predicted yesterday that someone would point out the Old Testament age of consent is 13, when a bar or bat mitzvah welcomed the child into adulthood. (In practice back then, ladies, it meant basically that your father could sell you to the highest bidder, which is apparently what conservatives would like to go back to. Hey, it’s what Trump did.)

The someone who fulfilled the prophecy was Alabama state auditor Jim Ziegler, who told the Washington Times, “Take Joseph and Mary. Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter. They became parents of Jesus.” Moore’s son has been arrested nine (9) times, eight times more than Jesus, so maybe that’s not the best comparison, but Moore’s brother doubled down on the ploy, straight-up claiming he’s “being persecuted just like Jesus was.” If that’s true, I’ll bring the nails.

Another conservative standby for the hopelessly guilty is to go on the offensive instead. Alabama state Rep. Ed Henry showed how it’s done, calling for the accusers to be arrested for not coming forward sooner. What a great idea — if a woman who’s been raped doesn’t come forward immediately, arrest her for failing to report a crime. I’ll bet the number of reported rapes would plummet, so problem solved, right?

There is, however, one honest Republican in Alabama, and Toronto Star reporter Daniel Dale found him. “After a long pause,” Dale tweeted, “Alabama Bibb County Republican chairman Jerry Pow tells me he’d vote for Roy Moore even if Moore did commit a sex crime against a girl. ‘I would vote for Judge Moore because I wouldn’t want to vote for Doug. I’m not saying I support what he did.” Because priorities.

Moore will try to brazen this out, but I don’t think it’s going to work. People have already begun to dig into his judicial record and it wasn’t hard to find him bending over backwards to accommodate defendants in rape and sexual assault cases.

This drumbeat is just going to get louder until the election, and I’m not sure there will be enough loyalists or enough backlash to carry him over the finish line.

  2. Yes, but…Alabama.

I DO wonder when he’ll show his face in public again, though. Should be lotsa protesters at any appearance he might make.

It won’t be at a debate:

  3. Alby says:

And also this: the Senate GOP campaign arm severed financial ties to Moore.

Alabama Republicans are blaming this not on Democrats but on establishment Republicans, which shows you the Democratic civil war isn’t the only civil war in town. Gotta love how one Moore supporter put forward his opinion on the story: “It doesn’t have any meat in it.”

Southern oligarchs are by far the most savage in the country. Why is anyone surprized by their savagry anymore?

    Yawn… Proof it…

You can always tell when they’re scared.

So I want this clown Ziegler to run on the slogan “Mary Was Jailbait.” I mean, what was God supposed to do? She came on to him. It was consensual. Sure, he was a lot older than her, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Plus, it fits on a bumper sticker.

  8. Alby says:

Don’t have to prove it. He’s already radioactive.

He’ll keep digging, though. The bottom of that hole has to be here somewhere.

  10. Homesteader says:

Now they want to move the special election to give them time to find another candidate, to keep the seat safely in R hands.
Reminds me of the so-called suspension of the Dallas Cowboy player who only beat up his girlfriend.

  11. Rusty Dils says:

This article needs updating, some of the accusers of Moore have already been busted as Dem plants, oh but you already knew that, just slipped your honest and trustworthy mind to update.

  12. Jason330 says:

The last time Dils had an update his source was, hilariously, RT

  13. Mike Dinsmore says:

    Richard Thompson???

  14. Rufus Y. Kneedog says:

The details on how he met and groomed the 14 year old are stomach churning. Since it’s tied to a court proceeding, I would think parts of it could be verified.

  15. Ben says:

    Dem plants..
because it’s impossible that a person assaulted by a powerful republican politician as a fucking child, would one day grow up to become a woman who wants to change her state and country and work against perverted fucksticks like Roy Moore. Naw rusty, you’re right.. she’s in it for the Obama Phone and all those free ….. actually, what is it again Hannity wants you to say she’s in it for?

  16. mouse says:

It really disappoints me that being a self righteous self serving theist demagogue who was removed as a judge isn’t enough to sink this nut.

  17. alby says:

They aren’t “Dem plants,” Rusty. He’s busted because everybody he used to work with knew he used to do it.

How many 14-year-olds are you feeling up, Rusty?

  18. Alby says:

Here’s a clue to where Rusty gets his “news”: Propaganda outlet Brietbart sent two “reporters” to Alabama to try to discredit Moore’s accusers.

Rusty Dils, Russian Dupe. Might make a good second book for our favorite brain-addled troll.

  19. Alby says:

Update for Rusty: The story about the woman being a “Dem plant” was itself a false story, written by a known internet fabulist. The story was picked up by InfoWars, so that tells us where else Rusty gets his “news.”

  20. Alby says:

But my goodness, how they’re trying! They really are fully committed to just lying their skinny white asses off. Now they’ve resorted to robocalls from a fake WaPo reporter named “Bernie Bernstein” who’s offering thousands of dollars for false testimony against Moore.

Bernie Bernstein? Really? Does he have a big nose?
