All “D” vs “R” Elections are proxy fights against Trumpism

Filed in National by on November 8, 2017

That’s the takeaway. Virginia, with some help from Gillespie who went full Trumpkin, relit the #resist fires that Ossoff let die out. Soon it will be our turn and every Democrat is on call. Centrist, Liberal, Green-Leaning…it is time for everyone to show up.

All races should name trump without naming him. What do I mean?

I mean Danica Roem provides a good example. Making her race about rationality, plain competence, and the basic services we expect Government’s to provide strikes at the heart of Trumpism which is, at its heart, all about fear, division, chaos and nonsense. To be all about competence WHILE being all in on diversity and social justice is the formula.

OR… JUST OUTRIGHT RUN AGAINST TRUMP as Delaware County Democrats did in their winning efforts:

Pushing the message that a vote for them was a vote against President Trump, Delaware County Democrats out-polled Republicans in a County Council election for the first time in history, winning both seats up for grabs in an ultra-tight race.

Democrats had planted signs throughout the county that read, “Vote Nov 7th Against Trump” and “Vote Nov 7th: Bring Sanity Back.”

Last night gave me back a little hope that the America I have always known, has not completely disappeared.

  2. jason330 says:

I had the same feeling. The election sent a strong message.

  3. mouse says:

Vote for me, I’m not trump. How pathetic

  4. Alby says:

@mouse: Say what you will, Delaware County, Pa., has never voted Democratic in my lifetime.

    Goes beyond “D” and “R”.

Democratic Socialist Lee Carter of Manassas, VA unseated the incumbent VA House Majority Whip. Ex-Marine and absolute boy. Love this.

I put this post on DL’s Facebook page and some Trumper shared it with the comment “Bull Shit Site”

    #winning!

We’re going to have to pass out paper bags if they keep hyperventilating like this.

Back to Danica Roem for a moment. Here’s what Charles Pierce had to say at Esquire:

Bob Marshall, a 26-year Republican incumbent [known for] clownish homophobia, lost to Danica Noem, a heavy-metal vocalist, former TV reporter, and the first trans person ever elected statewide in this country. Despite her unique biography, Noem ran on one of the oldest and most important issues in American politics: improved road construction. To have the first trans candidate elected on a platform straight out of Tip O’Neill is extraordinarily encouraging.

It’s also a big highway sign pointing the way forward.

I’m merely pointing out that the Democrats need a message to enthusiastically vote for

Manassas (we always called it Manasty because the crime rate was higher than many surrounding cities, is a pretty average town with high percentage of federal and military as well as government contractors. But there is also a high percentage of blue collar types as well. There is a Wegmans (a destination, not a grocery store) very close by. In short, it’s not upscale, but midscale.

Somewhat odd that a socialist would find success there. However he is a veteran, more or less blue collar, and really I don’t think anyone pays much attention to labels like socialism (except on the far left and right). He looks like a Democrat not a socialist. I probably would have voted for him and I’m a capitalist, but then the Virginia Republicans are mostly whack jobs.
