Open Thread, Nov. 7: Eagles, Fast Cars and Taylor Swift

Filed in National, Open Thread by on November 7, 2017

Alt-right darling Taylor Swift is already widely despised, but for some reason she doesn’t want to be associated with white supremacists — so much so that she has threatened to sue a web site for making note of their love for her. I guess no-talent “artists” have to protect their reputations because that’s all they have to sell.

The Philadelphia Eagles are having an unexpectedly good season, and I must admit I thought the team’s fans would be more obnoxious about it than they’ve been so far. The team is shaping up as the feel-good football story of the year, at least for bettors who believed in them. Their Las Vegas odds of winning the Super Bowl were 65-1 before the season, but they’re down to 4-1 after their win Sunday.

The guy who attacked Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul apparently did it for a completely understandable reason. No, he wasn’t mad because the clueless little twerp is a Tea Party Republican or because he doesn’t like Trump enough. No, Dr. Rene Boucher tackled Rand Paul because he doesn’t like the way he disposes of his grass clippings when he mows his lawn.

The biggest reason not to give rich people a tax cut is obvious — they’re irresponsible children and they’ll just waste the money on frivolous crap. Here’s an example: a production automobile, the Koenigsegg Agera, that just set a new speed record on a Las Vegas highway. It costs $2.1 million, more if you order under-body rust-proofing.

And finally, just in case you ever thought Wilmington City Council was something more than a work-release program for indigent bullshit artists, feast on this story from WDEL about a woman who was beaten up by members of Hanifa Shabazz’s family allegedly while Shabazz watched and did nothing.

Add anything else you find noteworthy.

I don’t know of any doctor, let alone a US senator, who cuts his grass himself.

  2. puck says:

Besides, everybody knows grass clippings should be mulched back into the lawn

    “… more if you order under-body rust-proofing.”

    *golf clap*

RE Rand: Sometimes it is a-hole vs. normal person, but usually these types of neighborly disputes involve two a-holes.

Im interested in how the DNC will find a way to blame progressives for losing the VA race today. No doubt that is what they spend their energy on this week instead of any kind of GOTV.

    With Rand we’re halfway there.

Here’s one I missed this morning. Someone got ahold of nude photos of pop singer Sia and offered them for sale. She responded by releasing them herself.

@puck: Way, way back in the day, as in the pre-Joe Biden days, Cale Boggs was well known for mowing his own lawn. That was also a time when senators were members of the middle class, and Boggs resided in that quintessential Brandywine Hundred community named Green Acres. (The grass was green, but Alby will tell you it should have been named Green Quarter-Acres.)

Your Taylor Swift take is very wrong.

  9. Alby says:

    In what sense?

  10. RIP: Roy Halladay. He wasn’t just a good pitcher, he was a DOMINANT pitcher. I think a future Hall of Fame pitcher. Died in a plane crash:

  11. So, Trump is speaking to the South Korean legislature. Wouldn’t you know it? He gives a shoutout to his golf club in Bedminister, NJ by name, which hosted the LPGA Championship where Korean golfers took the first four spots.

After tonight, though, I feel like everytime he speaks, Rethug fortunes go down.
