The week Trump solidified his grip on the GOP

This week rumors flew about Mueller getting down to business and handing down an indictment. It is also the week that Trump formally consolidated his grip on the GOP. The normally horrible David Brooks does a decent job breaking it down in the NYT. The Republican senators greeted Trump on Capitol Hill and saw a […]

A new free-association musical treat brought to you daily. I first saw Buckwheat Zydeco do this at a festival the day before I hopped a plane to a conference in the Big Easy.  Here’s the original, presented for obvious reasons:

Mueller Drops Really Big Shoe

Filed in National by on October 28, 2017 4 Comments

CNN is reporting that the grand jury in Robert Mueller’s probe of Russian involvement in the election has filed its first charges. It’s been sealed by a judge so we don’t know who it is or what the charges are. One CNN legal expert said the only reason for sealing an indictment is flight risk.

I’m torn on Catalonian Independence

Philosophically I’m for it. But Russia has ben very active in supporting separatist and secessionist groups in Europe and America. So does supporting Catalonia play into Putin’s grand plans to sow instability? The Spanish government has stripped Catalonia of its autonomy and taken charge of its government. The measures early on Saturday came after the […]

Sorry for the delayed open thread. Three reasons: 1) I’m still figuring out how to code this, 2) my gout is acting up and 3) I got sidetracked by a clip of Idina Menzel singing “Defying Gravity,” which, yes, throws my heterosexuality into doubt. It’s also a very slow news day, as evidenced by the […]

DEGOP’s Decent Senate Recruiting Continues

On a prima facie basis, Jason Stewart is another example of some decent recruiting by the DEGOP. Like their Senate picks last time out, Stewart is untested but looks fairly good on paper.

Ted Cruz Running for President of Crazy America

By setting himself up as the most stridently pro-Trump member of the Senate, Cruz is now looking to be the GOP front runner when Trump inevitably quits, is fired, or implodes. Cruz must feel like he is due. He did all the prep-work within the GOP unleashing a new level of crazy which Trump swooped […]

You don’t need ESP to sense there’s a much deeper story here. Kathleen Davies, Tom Wagner’s chief administrative auditor, has been on administrative leave for more than a year. Now she has created a campaign finance committee and says she will run against her boss as an unaffiliated candidate.    The good news: A majority of […]

Authentic Biden

Joe Biden is in the news again, having opened the door to a 2020 run.

It is easy for me to be angry at Joe Biden for not running against Hillary Clinton and sparing the country from her shit-ass campaign, but I think it is safe to say that if he knew how shit-ass that campaign was going to be – he would have run. If any of us had known what a terrible candidate Hillary Clinton was going to be – we would have Shanghaied him into the campaign.

Taxpayer-Funded Police Slush Fund Under Investigation.  Talk about a bare-bones story. Maybe it’s all that Randall Chase could glean from the cops.  Which would be par for the course.  Guess who they’ve got investigating it? A former state cop.  This entire story highlights the cozy relationship the police have with government. And your money. Senate […]
