Network Delaware Flexes Its Political Muscles In SD3

Filed in Delaware, Featured, National by on October 30, 2017

Elizabeth ‘Tizzy’ Lockman. Remember the name. She is running for Bob Marshall’s seat in SD 3.  She is the first candidate to emerge from Network Delaware’s grassroots efforts.

She is a candidate who does not appear to be someone who was obsessed with being involved in politics, in stark contrast to Jordan Hines, who has been itching to run since his recent cameo appearances in other campaigns.  According to this News-Journal story,  Lockman ‘is an education advocate and advocacy director at the Christina Cultural Arts Center. A native of the Cool Spring neighborhood on Wilmington’s west side, she has been a Public Ally, a member of the governor-appointed Wilmington Education Advisory Committee and vice chair of the Wilmington Education Improvement Commission.’

She is the daughter of former News-Journal reporter, columnist and editor Norm Lockman. (BTW, apropos of nothing, I discovered this story on the evolution of Wilmington City Council’s ‘discretionary’ fund.  The person pushing for it was Ted Blunt, the person warning against this potential slush fund was Norm Lockman.) I am quite impressed with her issue positions. Especially her commitment to public education as the ‘engine of democracy’.

I have often lamented that our best tend to avoid politics, leaving the field to people more interested in being somebody rather than doing something.  Tizzy Lockman appears to be a major exception to that rule. Her candidacy excites me and should excite you.

Now, if only Network Delaware could find somebody to replace the ethical sewer that is Charles Potter…

This energy behind this campaign and this candidate is great. I’m elated.

  2. chris says:

Problem is that if its a large or divided field, Marshall will win…..Sherry Dorsey also expected to get in. Hines should probably get out before hes embarrassed badly

  3. Word on Sherry Dorsey is that she may view running for State Senator as beneath her, since she has already run and lost for a statewide office. Look for her to run and lose for President in 2020. Or for County Council President in 2018.

Remember what I said about running to BE somebody as opposed as running to accomplish something? Sherry Dorsey Walker is a prime example of that.

  4. Kelly says:

It was told to me the the Sallies alummi is looking for someone to run againts Charles Potter. They plan on setting up a on line fund to raise money for the candidate who runs. I will be glad to give the $100.00.

  5. chris says:

Get Eugene Young to run and whip Charles’ rear end!!

  6. I want to see Eugene Young whip Carper’s ass.

  7. puck says:

The establishment of both parties, along with the News Journal, would turn Young into Chip Flowers.

  8. See, when you just throw out something like that, you damage your credibility.

Chip Flowers turned Chip Flowers into Chip Flowers.

  9. mediawatch says:

    Speaking of Chip Flowers:
    (a) if he had done his job instead of battling the governor and taking field trips to Alaska, he would now be in position to run for AG.
    (b) Ken Simpler to announce this week that he’s seeking a second term.

  10. Brooke says:

Tizzy is a great human being and terrific activist.

    Should be some race.

  11. chris says:

I think Tom Carper would be vulnerable to any decent credible challenger who could raise a few bucks in a primary.

  12. Delaware Left says:

I’d prefer if Eugene Young ran against our republican senator in 2020

  13. Alby says:

Tizzy is truly impressive. I met her a couple of years ago at a dinner party and she’s everything everyone here has said and more. I hope she isn’t insulted if I say that many of us who knew, worked with and liked Norm see a lot of his passion and intelligence — and less of his cynicism — in her. And she’s got his mischievous smile.

  14. If Eugene takes out our senior DINO Senator in 2018, people will be standing in line to challenge Coons in 2020.

  15. mediawatch says:

As a colleague of Alby and Norm, I’ll second Alby’s characterization of Tizzy. I’ve had some real good conversations with her. I’ve been impressed with the depth of her knowledge, her ability to simplify complex issues and her understanding of and empathy for those with the greatest needs. She will be an asset not only to the 3rd Senate District but to all who desire a better education system and a more equitable society.

  16. Scuttlebutt302 says:

Tizzy is an exciting candidate for this race, and she will be a definite upgrade over Marshall. Now she just has to win the primary…

“She is a candidate who does not appear to be someone who was obsessed with being involved in politics, in stark contrast to Jordan Hines, who has been itching to run since his recent cameo appearances in other campaigns.” Dead on, El Som, dead on.

However, I predict that you are all about to be “Markelled” (or is it, “Townsended”?) by Eugene Young. Wake up. Maybe look into his ties to Corey Booker and big time money in NJ and MD and what that means for this so-called “hope for our future.” He is another sham-in-waiting.

  17. hmm says:

Umm Scuttle. Eugene isn’t Network Delaware, it’s way bigger than a person. I’d suggest attending one of their events, you’ll understand. Also Eugene is the real deal, also his connections to Corey Booker… you mean his mentorship from one of the highest ranking African American officeholders in the country?

  18. Just to follow up on hmmm’s comment, I’ve done a little work on one of the Network Delaware working groups. This is a true grassroots organization. While it likely wouldn’t exist w/o Eugene, it is designed to be much bigger than one person. If candidates like Tizzy Lockman are the result, we’ll all be in a better place.

While it’s good to be cautious, it wouldn’t hurt to stow your cynicism every now and then.

  19. Scuttlebutt302 says:

Get me some popcorn, I can’t wait to watch the show. Insanity, whatever, history is about to repeat itself.

I’m well aware of what “The Network” is up to and capable of.
