A Democratic Party Sick with Dread and Exhausted
Every morning we are greeted with more evidence that Trump is literally horrible. This morning, for example, we have more evidence that he is sticking with the Sean Hannity, cartoon version of the Iranian nuclear arms deal, and appears to be determined to undermine the agreement worked out between Russia, China, Britain, France, Germany and Iran. He is determined to go to war with somebody, and soon.
But what is perhaps worse is how there is no congressional opposition to this belligerent child-man in the White House. The Republicans appear ready to pass the latest “health care” monstrosity, and the Democrats are worse than useless.
There continues to be no coherent response from Democrats to the daily assaults on our Democratic norms. There is only meekly hoping that the Mueller investigation …finds “something.” Trump and his inner circle of corrupt cronies and outer circle of corrupt GOP sycophants must be thinking “So what if it does find something? Democrats will never force the issue.”
And they are right to think that the Democrats have no response. No leadership, no guiding principles and no sway over public opinion. The Democrats have ceded their oppositional authority to late night comedians.

I agree, we need warriors and what we get is used car salesman trying to hide from angry customers. As noted Coons and Carper are useless in a fight and Coons just can’t stop “reaching across the aisle” to the hostile force we call the Republicans.

The Democrats problem is that completely lack cohesive vision (as always). Some want to ‘fix’ the republican plan known as Obamacare, others want single payer. Just like minimum wage, the environment, energy policy, you name it, D’s are fragmented. So even if they weren’t in the minority, they wouldn’t have a f-ing clue on what to sell and how to sell it.
If this latest BS passes and Obamacare repeal happens, it should only serve to strengthen the single payer argument. But it won’t. Because…..democrats….
They think their job isn’t to help you. They think their job is to assist capital in helping you; to maintain the status quo.
If the best solution helps people but diminishes the corporate sector one iota the middle managers will never go for it.
These people “create jobs” and etc…

Coons’ recent article in the Atlantic “Progressive Values can’t just be Secular Values” explains that his most important hour of the week is the Wednesday morning Senate Prayer Breakfast. Other than his pretty bald faced admission that he’s cozying up to Republicans through their religious values, his most egregious statement for me was “I’m a progressive Democrat, but at times I feel I have a closer relationship with Orrin Hatch and Johnny Isakson than some members of my own party, because we share a personal bond rooted in faith.”
Sure, Chris. I’m sure it’s your faith that makes you closer, not the fact that I’ll be living in poverty when I “retire”, and you and Hatch will maintain your luxurious lifestyles.
