  1. Well, the political hot stove has gotten mighty hot, mighty fast.

This is a solid D District represented by a Chamber/Carper guy. Chance for an upgrade.

  2. Truth Teller says:

Darryl Scott would make an excellent progressive senator

  3. Darryl Scott is the first name that came to mind. He was a real good state rep, just don’t know why he chose to step away. If he’s got the fire, he’d be an improvement over Bushweller.

  4. Darryl Scott would be the absolute worst choice for Bushweller’s Senate seat. He sits on the Rodel Advisory Board, chaired an education funding task force that never issued a final report, and did more to bring Markell’s very bad corporate education reform policies than anyone else in the House. The tag team of Sokola and Scott in the Senate would be horrible. He brought Donna Johnson into the State Board of Education and allowed her to have immense power that she shouldn’t have while she was his campaign manager. He is NOT a good choice.

  5. Sean Lynn has done more for education as a Progressive than Darryl Scott ever did. Smarter Balanced Assessment: Scott sponsored that. He fought those who opposed the God-Awful charter school bill, HB# 165. This would be a nightmare.

  6. puck says:

I agree with everything Kevin said about Scott, except there could be a worse alternative: flipping the seat to a Republican. But if the seat really is safe D, this is an opportunity to nominate the most progressive candidate possible.

  7. He would not be the ‘absolute worst choice’ for the Senate seat. He would be one of the best choices. He had an excellent record in the House, led the fight for death penalty repeal, and both sponsored and voted for progressive legislation. He was one of the few dependable progressive voices and votes in the House.

I respect your role as a voice for public education. But your excessive hyperbole works against your effectiveness. Scott would be an instant upgrade over Bushweller. Do you have someone else in mind who can win that race with a better progressive record? If so, I want to hear the name. If not, then you’ve demonstrated that your hyperbole is just that.

  8. Actually, I urge people to go to Dover this year as much as possible to watch Bushweller in action. Watch and learn.

I was very impressed with his performance last year.

There were few Senators of either party as prepared during committee hearings. His questions of legislation were considerably on point, no matter the sponsor or party. He saved our bacon several times in bringing forth the stupid in some of the bills while other Senators sat gape-mouthed.

As for Mr. Scott, what I observed was a HIGH DEM water carrier par none. For the Democrats’ supported progressive legislation he was there. But for all of the progressive bills and proposals not supported by our HIGH DEMs, Scott was nowhere to be found. And he was rewarded for his loyalty with prime committee spots.

  9. RE Vanella says:

    Opportunity.

  10. Anon says:

    Nancy for the win!

  11. alby says:

I don’t know Scott, but Bushweller has been a CarperCorp toady from jump. So let’s not pretend that trading Bushweller for Scott would somehow harm the progressive wing of the party.

  12. Harm it? No. Help it? No. Don’t advise settling.

  13. In doing a glance at who else resides in Bushweller’s district, I found that my state rep, Trey Paradee, does indeed live in that district.

  14. alby says:

@Nancy: The players change, the game remains the same.

  15. GOP2018 says:

Ah yes! Trey Paradee!! A great Republican! He’d be a great Senator!!
And an NRA guy to boot!!

  16. Yeah, let’s not settle. Trey Paradee IS a great Republican. And word on the street is that he’s considering running for this seat.

In every measurable way this side of KO-Land, he is worse than Sean Lynn could ever be. I’m speaking as a self-styled progressive.

  17. Anon says:

He’s worse then Lynn or Scott? Lynn is good is he running?

  18. chris says:

Lynn might want to go for AG

  19. Apparently, Lynn has said he’s not running for the State Senate seat. He’s maybe considering AG, but I don’t think that both he AND Bryan Townsend will run. One will defer to the other.

All kinds of political jockeying going on. I’ll put something up this week.

  20. chris says:

Bushweller is a smart guy. Did mot love him pushing for pushing big casino bailouts though. I know its his district, but that was ridiculous legislation.
