I read the physical paper on the bus this morning. Carper story was there under an AP byline, bottom of 5A. Looks like a wire type of deal.

Carper is beatable if a decent candidate steps up and can raise a few bucks.

I’ve been called a lot of things and now I can add defeatist. When it comes to turffing out a US Senator, the appellation is correct.

Boggs – Lost in Nixon cataclysm election to young upstart Biden
Biden – Moved up to VP
Looks like Boggs is the only modern era Senator to not be taken out by Father Time.
I think there indeed is a lot of defeatist talk when it comes to Carper. I understand it, and understand what a challenge it would be.
And not just anybody could take him out. Maybe Eugene Young is the only one who could do it, maybe not. But a serious challenge to Carper from the left based on Carper’s consistent selling out of his constituents could well find him ill-equipped to defend his horrible record. Since we’ve never seen such a challenge, I’d love to see it.
Father time was not real close to Cale in ’72 , he was only 63. Another fun fact Roth took Harris B. McDowell , Jr. from Congress in ’68 when McDowell was a mere 62. But Carper snaked his way into Congress by humiliating Tom Evans in ’82 when Evans was a boyish 51.
A name like Colin O’ Mara would be a very formidable challenger. Young, very smart and could raise some funds based on his national connections.
Trump is Michael Scott from the office without the charm:

RE: McConnell waging war…Why didn’t y’all know the Yankees did real well in the west during the Civil War? And this is the southern west we’re talking about here. That damned Yankee, McConnell!!!
