Kushner amended his report three times and left off 100 meetings with foreigners , which he later amended, to get his top level security clearance. Then he leaves off 77 items on his financial disclosure. RIDICULOUS.

I knew four Wilm. city cops who played on a softball team with me. They weren’t really good guys; one tried to make a date with my 17 year-old daughter when we were hanging out after a game-while his wife was talking with teammates a few feet away. Real sneeze. Check this article on why community policing doesn’t work: http://www.rawstory.com/2017/07/community-policing-in-america-and-where-it-went-wrong/

  3. Thanks, Jim, that’s a fascinating article.

Here’s my perspective, based on working with Wilmington-based senators who supported community policing and the very notion of having police and communities interacting in a collaborative manner–the reason why community policing hasn’t taken hold is because the brass has never bought into it, and the commitment of mayors was inconsistent at best. Even when they did at least pay lip service to it, Sills in particular, they didn’t have the guts to stand up to the police brass and the police union. Baker was dismissive of it, and Williams, of course, was utterly out of his league.

What Wilmington has NEVER had is a combination of mayor, police brass and officers dedicated to making it work. The one constant positive that I’ve observed is that virtually every community in the city WANTS community policing.

Time for the leaders to lead.
