Sussex Sports Complex Planned.  Before you ask, yes, government money is expected to help pay for this alleged financial windfall.  Raising the obvious question, if it’s such a windfall, why do taxpayers have to underwrite it?

US Military Paying Trump $130K A Month For Rent. In Trump Tower. Agreement was reached in April. Whatever happened to the bleeping emoluments clause? Oh, and why are they there? Ostensibly to protect the bleeping president.

Dana Rohrabacher: Russia’s Congressman.  Yes, he took his marching orders from Moscow in attempt to lift sanctions.  Isn’t there a law against that?

Will Virulent Anti-Immigration Activist Be Approved By Senate?  To, you know, conduct immigration policy.  The worst person in America has identified the next-worst people in America to destroy the country.

Huntsman To Be Ambassador to Russia?  White House announced it ‘intends’ to nominate him.  He and Trump have a history, though, and it’s not pretty.  Let’s see if the paperwork gets submitted.

Wilmington Police Chief Asks For Time And Trust.  He seems to have identified the institutional rot of the WPD (it isn’t hard to detect), so he deserves the chance to carry out his plans. A note of caution:  Do everything you can to marginalize and eliminate those who simply plan to outwait you.  They’re the real problem.

What do you want to talk about?

That new sports complex is only 20 miles from the other new sports complex.

  2. Arthur says:

There the sports at the beach and the huge complex at fredrica and now this? When the next recession hits these will be the first to go under. And isn’t there one in Middletown that already went under and they are now trying to revive it?

  3. mouse says:

    backward little state

  4. mediawatch says:

It ain’t about the sports. It’s about the tourism — all those high-paying kitchen, waitstaff and hotel/motel housekeeping jobs that will inevitably follow the parents of those 10-year-old travel team soccer players. It’s an example of a public-private partnership that will boost our economy to new heights (after the state subsidizes some new hotel construction, of course) so we can avoid imposing a higher tax rate on our wealthier citizens.
If you don’t understand, just ask Linda Parkowski, or any member of any Chamber of Commerce board of directors.

  5. alby says:

A guy with a metal detector finds a gold doubloon on the beach, and suddenly every old gent with Bermuda shorts wants a metal detector. And wants government to buy it for him.

  6. mediawatch says:

@alby: and when 49 other states turn him down, the old gent goes to Delaware, where the financial wizards say, “Holy shit, we can corner the market on doubloon hunters. Let’s write this guy a six-figure check.” Then the wizards say, Mystery Doubloon Beach is gonna be so popular, let’s build a road to get there faster, and while we’re at it, we can throw in an overpass too.

  7. SussexAnon says:

Sussex County is still subsidizing Sports at the Beach. At least they were two years ago.

  8. mouse says:

Is there an application for a metal detector grant?

  9. chris says:

They were going to cut $2 million dollars from the budget for Sussex to pay for its own state police, since there is no county police. It NEVER happened!!! got ditched at the end.
But the state has money to subsidize sport complexes?? Give me a break. Make these things pay for themselves.

  10. alby says:

@chris: I used to think Sussex County should form its own police department so Sussex taxpayers wouldn’t have to pay the markup on state police pay/pension rates.

Then I thought about giving that gang of idiots on County Council a police force. Case dismissed.

Update: I looked up the term for a group of idiots. It’s a “thicket.” A thicket of idiots.

  11. SussexAnon says:

Sussex County studied it. It cost too much.

And one thing Sussex County doesn’t do is pay for things that they state is more than willing to pay for. Parks, Police, Fire, EMTs, Roads, schools, you name it, the state pays the lions share of it.

Just think of County Council as little more than a Homeowners Association with Sewer Districts.

Oh, and when in doubt, blame DelDot. It always seems to work for County Council.

  12. mouse says:

Sussex County council has almost always been comprised of rich selfish old white men trying to cash in on raping the county.

  13. mouse says:

They just allowed some POS developer to bulldoze 20 acres of mature hardwoods on Love Creek right down to the marsh with no buffer from the asphalt parking lot and pay day loan stores

  14. Another Senator Craig?:

Rethug County Chair assumed a ‘wide stance’ in a department store bathroom. Got tased and punched by cops.

He is the GOP County Chairman in, I can’t make this up, Letcher County.

  15. SussexAnon says:

So Washington DC wants to make it a felony to boycott Isreal. WTF?
    Senator Coons is a co-sponsor.

    So much for free speech.

    https://theintercept.com/2017/07/19/u-s-lawmakers-seek-to-criminally-outlaw-support-for-boycott-campaign-against-israel/

  16. Back in the day, my dad stopped contributing to the Trees For Israel program when one of the right-wing guys became Prime Minister.

That’s a boycott. He’d be a criminal under this proposal? This is a fucking disgrace.

  17. meatball says:

I once crunched the numbers on Sussex county paying for extra police, it was a bargain for Sussex. It’s something like $2mil for 40 extra troopers (and cars, training, guns, gas and equipment and K-9s). They’d be stupid to give that up.

  18. CinqueB says:

    @El

” US Military Paying Trump $130K A Month For Rent. In Trump Tower. Agreement was reached in April. Whatever happened to the bleeping emoluments clause? Oh, and why are they there? Ostensibly to protect the bleeping president.”

What about everyone’s Hero Joe Biden charging the Secret Service rent? Damn Hypocrites.

  19. alby says:

We complained about that, too. I think the total over 8 years equaled about two months of this.

So I dunno. Go fuck yourself, maybe?

Speaking of hypocrites, though, what exactly have other politicians done that Trump doesn’t do much worse? What kind of bad behavior do they engage in that Trump hasn’t, and to a much worse degree?

  20. jason330 says:

All Republican defense of any Republican crimes or malfeasance always boils down to “A Democrat did something once.” So weak. So sad.

BTW, CinqueB, malfeasance means wrongdoing, especially by a public official.

  21. alby says:

@jason: That, for me, is the fact that reveals all about Trump voters: Anything they can say about Hillary, Trump is guilty of the same thing to a larger degree. They have the moral authority of Vikings raiding a monastery.

  22. alby says:

The Republican Party — and I mean all its adherents, not just its leaders — is on the brink of becoming a secret society, in that its members cannot say in public what they really believe. What Republican truly believes that there’s nothing troubling about the Russian ties, even if they’re merely financial? Yet that’s what all of them, from members of the Senate to the lowliest white supremacist, say in public.
