Open Thread for July 7th – The Ennui Edition

This budget “past” by the Democrats and signed by a “Democratic” Governor sure was a kick in the balls wasn’t it? On an implementation level it is 100% morally bankrupt. But on a strategic level it is a disaster, giving the GOP all of its malevolent cuts while leaving Democrats holding the bloody knife.

There is simply no reason for anyone in the state vote for any incumbent Democrat next time out. The GOP really should run the table. If they don’t it means they picked some real homunculī.

So that’s my state of mind. But just when I’m about to hit bottom, I get emails from Network Delaware like this:

Network Delaware shared their event.

Do you want to foster a new grassroots political culture? Do you want to gain skills to support candidates get elected to office? Do you want to increase voter turnout in all elections? If so, then this program is for you! #netDE

They are really doing great work.  If you aren’t involved with Network Delaware and/or Delaware United, you really should be.

Tonight we’ll have Delaware Liberal’s own El Som on WHYY’s ‘First’. Until then, here is Delaware’s preeminent political cartoonist, Rob Tornoe.

“The truth unquestionably is, that the only path to a subversion of the republican system of the Country is, by flattering the prejudices of the people, and exciting their jealousies and apprehensions, to throw affairs into confusion, and bring on civil commotion.

When a man unprincipled in private life, desperate in his fortune, bold in his temper, possessed of considerable talents, despotic in his ordinary demeanor – known to have scoffed in private at principles of liberty – when such a man is seen to mount the hobby horse of popularity – to join in the cry of danger to liberty – to take every opportunity of embarrassing the General Government & bringing it under suspicion – to flatter and fall in with all the nonsense of the zealots of the day – It may justly be suspected that his object is to throw things into confusion that he may ‘ride the storm and direct the whirlwind.’” —–Alexander Hamilton, 18 August 1792

    Pretty smart dude, that Hamilton.

This, from the House Dems Official Newsletter, is just pitiful:

Dems Offer Compromise to GOP Demands

During budget negotiations, House Democrats offered olive branches for every GOP demand, only to have them kicked aside. And lawmakers were forced to consider painful cuts that hurt real people: students, working families, fire companies and seniors.

The legislative session is over, but advocacy shouldn’t take a hiatus. Contact lawmakers and tell them you support raising revenue to help protect working families and fix the problem.

This video shows the compromises House Democrats have made to comply with every Republican demand, from spending fixes to prevailing wage survey reform.

Shorter House Dems: “We threw you under the bus so hard. But keep protesting tho, those mean Republicans…amiright?”

Here’s how bad the cult of police refusing to accept the dangers of their job has become: Some asshole sheriff in Ohio (ain’t electing the chief of police a great idea?) won’t let his deputies carry Narcan because a revived OD victim could become violent and put officers in danger:

This is what happens when we pretend that the opinions of stupid people are just as valid as everyone else’s.

  5. John kowalko says:

There are such things as negotiating, compromising, strategic retreat, truce, conditional surrender, unconditional surrender, abject failure with admission of such and finally prostrating oneself at your opponents feet, groveling and sniveling for forgiveness for having dared to challenge them and kissing those same feet in an embarrassing display of subjugation without even admonishing yourself for your failure. That’s what Delaware’s Democratic Party seems to have devolved into. Rep. Kowalko

That hits the nail on the head.

I’m thinking Carney MUST face a primary over this utter crap. Even if it does opens the door to a GOP Governor. What the hell is the point of electing Democrats if entire strategy of dealing with Republicans is compromising, strategic retreat, truce, conditional surrender, unconditional surrender, abject failure, prostrating groveling and sniveling?
