BREAKING: Mooch Out! Yes, Already

Filed in Featured, National by on July 31, 2017 5 Comments

Maybe the new Chief-In-Staff insisted on this move before he would accept the position. Where did I hear the story? On ESPN’s trade deadline special. They called it the biggest deal of the day. Technically, Mooch was never in. Now he’ll never be in. Until maybe he is in. Someday: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/31/us/politics/anthony-scaramucci-white-house.html?mcubz=0

‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes: July 2017

I had so much good stuff this month that I excised some just to keep the numbers manageable.  Another great month: “I miss you, but don’t miss you like I miss Prince…”. I LOL’d : While we’re on the subject of famed rockers’ deaths: From Japanese Breakfast to…Japanese Math Rock? Whatever it is, I love […]

Another thing I liked about Obama

Another thing I liked about Obama

I don’t like Obama’s centrist politics and how that centrism hobbled the Democratic Party. But he had dignity and grace. He didn’t have to have a minion tell people to address his with deference. They just naturally did. . He was what Tom Wolfe would call “a man in full” unlike this shallow, craven nit […]

Pssst….John Fluharty, This is Your Party’s Platform

It seems we need a little refresher on the GOP’s actually stated position non-hetero normative sexuality. Even if you are “a nice guy”  , if you are a gay Republican, this is what your  party’s platform (pdf) says about you: Overturn the Supreme Court’s 2015 decision to legalize gay marriage in all 50 states. Marriage […]

Boo Hoo….Delaware “farmers” face more than 120 regulations

A new study of farm regulations by the Delaware Soybean Board has revealed that farmers are required to comply with more than 120 separate regulations to operate an agricultural business in the First State. Make no mistake. These farms are industrial operations. They need to be well regulated. When you hear legislators moan a groan […]

Highmark CEO David Holmberg, the Six Million Dollar Man

Highmark CEO David Holmberg, the Six Million Dollar Man

Highmark Health President and CEO David Holmberg received $3.8 million in total compensation in 2015. He took down $2.15 in total compensation in 2014. Check my math, but that’s a 76% growth rate. So, if that rate is stable he is making $11 million this year. What if, during these troubled times, his compensation leveled off a bit? He is still bringing in at least $6 million a year.

Now Delaware Insurance Commissioner Trinidad Navarro is holding a series of public comment sessions on whether or not Highmark’s requested health insurance rate increase are justified.

Let’s hope the CEO compensation comes up in those meetings. How much more money does David Holmberg need? How much more do Delawareans have to pay so to keep David Holmberg in the lifestyle to which he has become accustomed?

The Heroes of Trumpcare’s Defeat

The Heroes of Trumpcare’s Defeat

McCain surely deserves credit for his surprise vote. There was an audible gasp when he voted “no” and flashed the bird at McConnell. Murkowski deserves more credit. She stuck to her guns in spite of Trump’s bullying. Collins deserves even more credit. She was a “no” the whole time and that allowed Murkowshi and McCain to come along. But as Josh Marshall, the most insightful and intelligent commenter on all of this points out, the activists and non-activists who showed up at townhalls and made endless noise are the real heroes.

Trump – Let Obamacare (and the economy) implode

Remember…this is all about keeping his Russian crimes in the background. Completely fucking shit up isn’t an accident. It is a strategy, After the Senate’s latest effort to repeal Obamacare failed early Friday morning, President Donald Trump proposed simply letting the Affordable Care Act “implode” before working up replacement legislation. The Senate GOP’s effort to […]
